El Cid is a historic Silver Lake restaurant that presents a wide range of live entertainment, from flamenco and burlesque shows to stand-up comedy and DJs. A white stairwell winds down to a pleasantly lit red, black and gold room with plush leather booths. Outside, the sprawling patio features decorative plants and festive lighting. Early in the evening, the restaurant hosts authentic flamenco shows for a crowd of cozy couples and groups celebrating special occasions. Later in the evening, the DJs take over and play music ranging from rock and salsa to house.
Please don't go to El Cid's flamenco show for the food, or you'll be SORELY disappointed. We ordered the shrimp with red rice. The rice tastes like Goya rice from the box, but less tasty. The shrimp and veggies were overcooked, and the dish overall was oversalted and watery. Yuck.
The performers on the other hand, were talented, energetic, and committed. Four dancers performed at the Wednesday night show we attended. There were two younger dancers and two more "veteran" dancers. However, they were all divine. The most elderly of the dancers danced with such feeling and emotion that I couldn't take my eyes off her. I got my tix at half price through Goldstar. Definitely worth the price for the show. Next time I'll skip the food and eat elsewhere beforehand.
The Sangria is like water. Used to be the Best in the world. The Paella is done with food color. The Flamenco show has been cut to 3 people and does not last even 30 mins.
They rush you out after the show so the Dance kids can dance. Food is fast food out of a box and not real Spain food like over the last 40 years. What has happened to this great place.
The huge crowd sipping margaritas in the bar is the first clue as to the popularity of this Mexican cantina.
The entire restaurant rolls with an upbeat, almost silly atmosphere. The wait on a Friday night can be anywhere ...
