Sweet Lady Jane
Everything sweet under the sun can be found at this delicious bakery and cafe. Try the tempting brownies or famous layer cakes. In addition to baked goods, the shop serves up tea and scones for those who want a British-inspired afternoon in Los Angeles. It has become one of the favored bakeries in Los Angeles by celebrities and civilians as well. Check website for further details.
The cakes are good but I do have to agree that the service is very very poor. I recently ordered a cake and was quoted several different prices. I spoke with the owner and she put me on hold and basically told another employee that I was being cheap. I think they clearly take advantage of their customers when it comes to cost. The level of customer service is extremely poor.
Take it from a confirmed sweet-aholic---Jane has the most
fabulous desserts in L.A. Distinctive, beautifully decorated,
and to-die-for! Everything is made from scratch using the
finest ingredients. It is consistently 100 percent excellent.
My favorites are the Lemon Meringue----which stands alone
in any of the lemon desserts I have tried both here and in
Europe. Get it early in the day so it is super-fresh. Their
individual apple tartes are absolutely heavenly---and travel
well. I take them home and put them in the toaster-oven to
serve them a little warm. Among the many chocolate desserts, my #1 favorite is their Almond Roca Cake---best
eaten fresh when the almond crunch is most crunchy, but I've
been known to tackle the rest of my birthday cake for the
next morning's breakfast! The sad truth, however, is that I
don't know how a diet will ever work as long as Sweet Lady
Jane's exists-----life is just too short to not have tasted a bit
Lady Jane, Staff, Quality/consistency of food.
I've ALWAYS loved Sweet Lady Jane's. I have sent over a number of my friends to them. THAT is how much I USED to love this place. But lately they have shrunk in size and the quality is sub-par. Example: the triple berry cake used to be out of this world, now its much shorter, the berries er bitter and the cake itself tastes overdone and old, not to mention the butter cream is oily on the inside and crusty on the outside. BUT LADY JANE IS NOT SO SWEET! Also, the employees are the rudest actors/waiters ever. I've witnessed Jane chew out a customer when it was clear that they were not at fault. I was stunned. The owner herself won't admit to fault and instead makes her customers feel small and worthless. Why is she on such a pedestal may I ask? Probably being on TV puffed up her ego and thinks no matter what customers will keep coming back for more. It's obvious that she doesn't care about her clients, just the business they'll bring her. I'm finding myself a different bakery.
