Whale & Ale
This is an authentic British pub in San Pedro. While the upstairs balcony seats 120 people, downstairs there is a log fireplace and a Victorian style bar made of solid oak and brass fittings. The clientele is mostly locals who have been coming to this pub for years. You will see plenty of British expatriates and local fishermen from San Pedro. The menu features main course salads, The Henry VIII Steak, the Anne Boleyn Steak, fresh roast turkey, rack of lamb, Beef Wellington and fish and chips. They have a full bar and sell all of the popular draught beers, including Guinness and Bass. Happy Hour is Monday-Friday 3p-6ppm with all draught beers, well drinks and house wines selling for $3. In addition, they sell California wines by the glass.
Andrew, the owner is always great but I can't help but wonder if my car is ok. The surrounding nieghborhood needs some lookin after. I would expect the locals would brighten the place up a bit with some fresh paint what have you. I don't go there as often as I would if the surrounding area didn't look like a seedy abandoned street in downtown la.
I liked the laid back atmosphere. The service was very good and the food was delicious. I really enjoyed the entertainment. Only one thing I would like to recommend; I think along with the entrees such as your shrimp dinner, a soup and salad should come along with it. Other than that, everything was excellent. Will be back soon!
After my best friend introduced me to the Whale & Ale I was hooked! The place is all about quality. Their soups and salads are all prepared with fresh ingredients and care. Their entrees are extraordinary. I've tried their fillet mignon, fish and chips. However, my favorite is the prime rib. For all of you prime rib lovers, this is the place for you! They slow roast their rib for hours. The result is an extremely tender and jucy cut of meat that will satisfy your prime rib cravings. In addition, their dessets are fabulous! My favorites are their whole baked apple and bread pudding. To top it off, their service is great and the ambiance is excellent!
The Whale & Ale is one of our absolute favorite places to eat. My mother-in-law brings all her out of town visitors to experience the European pub like atmosphere. It is consistently great!
It reminds me of a place I used to eat in London.
