La Jolla Woman's Club
Between 1913 and 1914, Ellen Browning Scripps provided the financial backing for architect Irving Gill to design this clubhouse. The clubhouse has been home to the La Jolla Woman's Club for decades. The society began as a reading circle in the 1890s, then expanded their services and moved into this facility in the 20th century. The clubhouse is a popular spot for weddings, parties, banquets and business meetings. An auditorium, complete with stage, hosts up to 300 people. See website for complete visitor details.
I was just married and had my reception here last month. I LOVE Betsy!! I cannot even believe that someone wouldn't have anything but nice things to say about her. She helped me so much throughout the whole planning process (about 12 months). If you are considering getting married here, don't worry! The club, like most venues, has rules you must follow, but they are posted on their website, so just make sure they work for you.
I had a fantastic wedding here and will remember it always. The grounds are beautiful and my guests are still raving about how wonderful it all was.
I have been working as a photographer in La Jolla Woman’s Club for close to 5 years and I have truly enjoyed working with Betsy. She is one of the more resourceful, efficient and nicest managers I have encounter in my years working on the industry. I have to say that because of that La Jolla Woman’s Club is one of my favorite places to work. I agree with the previous posting that the only reason someone would put a negative review is if they did not abide by the rules. Betsy’s priority will always be protecting the club, thanks to her we can still enjoy such a beautiful historic place.
La Jolla Womans' Club is a wonderful venue for a wedding. As one of the oldest and most repected event planners in the area- I love this place. It gives you the nostalgic feeling and a block from the beach for those great pics- without going too far.. The different patios and areas are great for an overall diverse reception with little nooks and crannies...
And Betsy upholds that building and the guidelines with class!
She was and has always been a great help in answering questions and giving different feedback and suggestions.
It's not often that I post comments about my DJ experiences, but last week (Oct.23, 2008) I entertained a Wedding party at the historic La Jolla Woman's Club and it was such a pleasant experience that I just wanted to share it.
Along with being a Mobile DJ and former President of a DJ association, I am also a certified Tour Guide and a former President of the San Diego Professional Tour Guide Association. As such I was looking forward to be DJing at this registered historical building whose lineage includes the famous architect Irving Gil with his Spanish influenced design and the club's patron "saint" Ellen Browning Scripps of the Scripps newspaper chain and famous Scripps Clinic.
Having been given a list of (reasonable) rules to follow I was prepared to be micro-managed by the venue staff. Much to my surprise that was not the case . . . in fact the club's manager, Betsy Ring, was most pleasant to work with. Of course I was on my best behavior none the less. Miss Ring, always within an ear's shout, was present without hovering over us. It was as if there was an unspoken understanding among the vendors that we were in the presence of elegance and we were expected to act accordingly . . . and everyone did.
For a Wedding venue I found the LJ Woman's Club to be outstanding in it's amenities including gorgeous stained glass windows in the main hall, much too high to be completely appreciated, a secluded and charming Wedding ceremony area with plentiful foliage presenting a lush green, "secret garden" feel to it. Inside was quite simple in design as would be expected from Mr. Gill's less-is-more attitude. The beautiful wooden floors were in perfect condition as was the ideal sized stage and the piano placed on one side of it.
However, the structure and historical significant of the La Jolla Woman's Club almost pails in comparison to complete edding "package" presented by Miss Ring. I have entertained in thousands of Wedding facilities throughout California and the La Jolla Woman's Club tops the list!

I own a mobile music and production company and we are fortunate enough to be on their list of vendors. I've been in the industry for 20 years and have worked with them for the past 3 years. Their staff is fun and flexible and a pleasure to work with. At times the staff is more flexible than they should be. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue for your next event without hesitation! As for working with Betsy Ring, personally she is one of the few coordinators and managers that get it. She understands the event as a whole and not just from the venue's perspective. Betsy strives to make every event in her venue as perfect as can be. I look forward to my next event at the La Jolla Woman's Club!

Well, I have to say that 1 year AFTER my wedding - I still remember my AWESOME wedding at the Womens' Club! Betsy was great and helped me so much that we didn't even need a planner :) The facility is beautiful and was the BEST place to have an event. It felt like I had another mom there by my side.
For any bride that wants a great place to have her wedding - call Betsy at the Womens CLub- Can't go wrong!!!!!
