Children's Pool Beach, La Jolla

I like the way that people who don't live here try to tell us how to use OUR beach! This is the only MAN MADE BEACH in the state of California that was made for the people of San Diego and the seals that have move onto this beach was introduced here by Sea World in the mid 90's when they changed their rehabilitation release program from 12 miles of Point Loma and started releasing them at Children's Pool to form a "seal rock reserve" off shore next to Children's Pool, Seals no longer afraid of people started to come ashore, this is what happens when you mess with Mother Nature...

I live in Marin County, in northern california, and we care for and protect the seals, It is difficult to read what the people of San Deigo are doing to the seals, chasing them off the beaches, even pregnant seals, what is wrong with you , have no compassion, what a blessing it is to have the wild life right there for you to see and enjoy, they were here a long time before us, and we should protect, and respect them, We have the Marin Mammal center in our area and they do all they to care and protect them, when they are hurt they take them in and nurse them back to health, you have so many beaches, let them be, Cathy

If you love the seals, whether a local or a tourist, make sure you write the Mayor in support of turning this area into a Marine Mammal Reserve. jerrysanders@sandiego.gov The Anti-Seal Group has gotten very aggressive in recent months, arguing with tourists, picking verbal fights with locals, and has no issue with scaring the pregnant seals off the beach. Seal moms will often abandon their pups if scared, which is the goal of these activists. Don't be fooled by the anti-seal group who claim they just want beach access or that it's OK to sit on the beach with the seals. They want the beach back for diving and for their kids to swim at and have proven they will do whatever they can to achieve their goal. Casa Beach is just 200 feet of over 70 miles of beaches in San Diego. Leave the seals along and walk 50 yards in either direction.

I am outrage at the fact that the seals are not allowed in the La Jolla Shore anymore, if you were not aware of this situation please we need to do something about this. I took my family that came out of town today, just to find out that the rich and selfish San Diego people won this battle. So disappointed.

Everytime I visit San Diego, I have to go see the seals. They are so peaceful and it's great to watch them lounge around. This means I spend money in La Jolla. I also see lots of other tourists visiting. I have never witnessed the "pro-seal" people harrassing people. I hope this beach is officially turned over to the seals. If people want to go to the beach, there are lots of other places in La Jolla.

Loved the seals- couldn't stand the seal lovers After listening to a bunch of whinning morons scream at anyone who dared set foot on this PUBLIC BEACH that they couldn't be on the PUBLIC BEACH, I have decided that the next time I go I'm bringing my lawn chair, a good book and plenty of iced tea. I'm going to sit on the beach, read, drink and listen to 'em scream.

I love watching the harbor seals and the Californa sea lions. Miss Scripps must be so happy. She was an animal lover. It is a shame that people want the seals and sea lions to get kicked out. Lets protect these innocent animals.

Ellen Browning Scripps must be crying. Her dream and gift of a "Children's Pool" has been taken over by a group of smelly sealions that don't belong there. Gone are the days when Grandparents could safely take their charges to a the only safe pool in La Jolla and enjoy the day with them. It's a shame that the children of today don't have this experience. I guess that people don't matter anymore. They should change the name at least, so people won't be misled.

When visiting the Children's Pool Beach in La Jolla don't be fooled by the environmental activist groups that set up camp at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach. These activists have official looking signs that fool most tourists into believing that the beach is off limits to humans; not true. I have been swimming with the seals here at the Children's pool for over twenty years; it's quite an experience. The seals are curious and playful when in the water and will often swim along with a diver or snorkeler for quite some distance. Do show the seals respect though as they are protected by the Marine Mammal protection act and malicious behavior towards these creatures is punishable by law. Any chasing or taunting of the seals will invariably lead to the environmentalists who, stand 24 hour guard over the seals, calling the police and could possibly get you bitten by a seal (they can be quite cranky when on land). All that aside, this beach is the same as any other public beach in the state so feel free to enjoy it. At the Children’s Pool you will have an opportunity to see harbor seals up close and personal. If visiting the San Diego area I definitely recommend a trip to the La Jolla Children’s Pool Beach and a swim with the seals.

The Children's Pool beach area is a great place for a family to spend a relaxing day. Things to do include seeing the seals (obviously), having a picnic at one of the nearby parks, and going to the beach. It's a fun way to spend the day while also learning something useful.
