The term "comedy store" is synonymous with big stars that trace their humble beginnings back to performing regularly here. This La Jolla location is no exception. Among others, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg are said to have gotten their start here. The almost exclusively black decor and complementary lights create a raw, yet minimally distracting backdrop for the comedy. A full bar is provided. Staff will order food from the deli across the street if so desired.
Free on street parking is easily available nearby. Even on a Friday night there was lots of seating, and there are no bad seats. You might want to avoid the front row if you do not want specific attention from the comics. One of the comics we saw, Jay London, appeared two nights before on the Last Comic Standing TV show. We also saw Steve Pearl and Jeff Altman (the headliner.) Prices vary depending upon the date, and week nights cost less than weekends.
