Eastshore State Park

Description

This state park, a former landfill, is being transformed into a recreational wonderland by a number of public agencies. Eventually, it will consist of 1,817 acres and span the shorelines of Albany, Richmond, El Cerrito and Emeryville. Until then, the park is open to the public and provides awesome views of the San Francisco Bay. This scenic spot in the making features a park, marina and trails along the shoreline.

Fantastic park for dogs and people alike!
By ,
I love the art! People have created pretty huge sculptures using only found junk (metal and rubber, etc.). There is a samurai, a Poseidon like figure, and many more. Lots of great graffiti and smaller pieces of art. Also, one of the best views of the Bay i have ever seen. If you find yourself wondering whey there is so much junk and concrete there, remember that it used to be a dumping site for the SF earthquake debris. There is also a tiny beach right before the main park area (which has only boulder beaches) that is perfect for your water loving dogs and kids. The only problem is the homeless. They have kind of set up camp there. They live in makeshift homes kind of like permanent campers. In the times I have been there they haven't bothered me or anyone I saw. They aren't in the way of anything worth seeing so it really shouldn't be a concern, but it is a little sketchy. A night trip by yourself or with a friend wouldn't be recommended. Oh yeah, it's free!

Easthore Ste Park Needs Greater Police Protection
By ,
I have lived directly above what is now the Eastshore State Park since 1973. Once, less than a dozen people passed below me each day. Now there are hundreds coming and going 24 hours a day. My only complaint is there a complete and total lack of police protection here at the Watergate, Emeryville section of the Eastshore State Park. In fact, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PARK RANGER OR PARK POLICEMAN PATROL THIS AREA OF THE PARK. In the last two years, my cars have been vandalized, my mother's wheel chair was stolen and I caught two regular park patrons burglarizing my home----which resulted in a violent physical assualt. All I ask is that the East Bay Regional Parks System accept some kind of responsibility and raise the police protection from zero to a level more appropriate with the increase in violent crime. Did I forget to mention the zillions of park patrons who peer into my windows 24 hours a day. It is time for the East Bay Regional Parks System to get real and assume the responsibility that taxpayers expect.
