Cesar E. Chávez Park
Berkeley's Cesar E. Chávez Park came into being in 1957, although back then it was known as the North Waterfront Park. The area is perfect for good ol' outdoorsy fun, with great views, hiking trails, a leash-free areas for dogs, and much more.
The Berkeley Kite Festival has to be seen to be believed. The collection of huge creature kites, competitions, kite fighting, candy drop, free kitemaking, food and, of course, Ray Bethell flying 3 stunt kites at the same time are amazing!!!!
The Berkeley Kite Festival is one of the premier west coast kiting events. The event is family oriented and features a myriad of splendid performances on the main field. Three other fields offer an opportunity to meet representatives from various kite manufacturers (Ozone, Prism, and Revolution) and demo their kites. While there is a small open fly field for the public, I would not recommend going to Berkeley hoping to fly its far too crowded. If you are a kite flyer take the opportunity to meet some of the most talented flyers in the world. Everyone can enjoy the beauty and splendor that is the Berkeley Kite Festival.
I have been attending this event for the past 5 years as a representative and rider for Ozone Kites USA.
