Tucson's Map & Flag Center
This unique and fascinating store offers travel maps to help you find anything, anywhere, no matter where you will be driving or hiking. There are detailed maps of Tucson and Southwest points of interest, topographical maps of the United States and Mexico, Forest Service maps, street atlases, globes, travel guides, compasses and Global Positioning Systems to help you navigate on your hike. And yes, there are flags from every state and nations from all over the globe.
I used to work for Mr. Smith and his staff of gentleman. This is a great store all around; kid friendly. If this staff seems standoffish its just because they need their morning coffee. They do know a more than generous amount of knowlege in geography, so its worth the visit, whether you're a resident or an out of towner.
I have purchased several maps from this store and will continue. The staff is laid back, helpful and knowledgeable. In addition, the store is filled with unique and interesting merchandise. Fun to browse.
Best shop of it's kind in all of Pima county!
Hands down the best place to find maps. The guys there are ALL pros at finding a map that will best suit your needs. From local hikes in Tucson, to traveling the world. They might be a bit rude, or terse with you, but ask them questions and they'll have the answers. Great place. I will miss it dearly if I ever leave Tucson.
Staff was aloof, an older employee (owner/manager?) actually became impatient with me for asking a question. On top of that their maps are outrageously overpriced. They wanted to charge me $27 for a map that USGS had for $11. Maybe they have a large corporate clientele and don't need individual customers. There are some interesting items in the store, but that's not enough to make up for overpriced maps and cranky personnel.
Our experience was one of an uncomfortable setting, overpriced items and a staff that seemed intent on avoiding customers. I'd like to shop locally, but the prohibitive prices and cool reception by the employees caused me to walk out and order what I needed on line.
