Northern Light Balloon Expeditions
Rise above the mundane in an FAA certified hot air balloon. Since the 70s, this company has thrilled visitors with Sedona's incomparable views from a higher perspective. All pilots exceed FAA minimum. Chase vehicles utilized are four wheel drive for added dependability and safety. Experience the glorious color of the red rock region with the singular experience of a sunrise balloon flight. Call for further information and reservations, usually at least one day in advance. This service provides hotel pick up at no additional cost.
My wife and I enjoyed our first balloon flight this morning. Even though neither of us likes heights, we felt completely at ease in the balloon at it floated up to 7000 feet above sea level (about 2500 fee above the ground here in Sedona).
The pilot was very informative and pointed out various tidbits about the area along the route. I understand that most flights last from 1 to 1.5 hours. Our trip was a little longer due to the very light wind.
While the temperature at the sunrise liftoff was about 30 degrees, we dressed appropriately and didn't feel uncomfortably cold. However, at the end of the flight our feet were beginning to get rather cold.
Upon the conclusion of the flight we were provided with mimosas and a pastry with fresh fruit. Actually, we would have preferred a hot coffee, bacon and eggs but we were happy with the event.
The trip costs just under $200 per person. This excludes the tip that the crew hinted for.
Overall, the trip was a great experience.
Northern Lights is Top Notch ALL the way!!! We did the balloon ride today for my 40th birthday which was actually yesterday. We had an appointment with another balloon company yesterday, but we were left in the lurch which was extemely disappointing. While on the hunt for our balloon company we happened upon Northern Lights and boy am I glad we did.....They were AWESOME from beginning to end! Our pilot was actually Doug, the owner of Nothern Lights, who has over 30 years of ballooning under his belt. The view from the Sedona sky was absolutely amazing. We saw lots of wildlife - a herd of antelope, a herd of elk, rabbits, deer and turkey vultures. I waited over 20 yrs. for this balloon flight and I would go again in a heartbeat!!! This is a MUST do when you visit Sedona!
Beautiful way to see the red rocks from above without the excess pollution of helicopter tours. Had little wind so was unable to go as far as the 4 balloons that launched before us so i was a little disappointed but there's no counting on the weather. Our pilot was great & did his best to catch some wind when possible & flew close enough to the ground that i wasn't scared of the height. The baskets only carry about 6 adults which I am told the other company carries about double so if you're travelling in a small group or don't like crowds, I would recommend Northern.
This was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Captain Ron was great, as was Jeff, our crew chief. It was our first time, but we were all comfortable and felt very safe. The view from here is remarkable. Afterwards, the breakfast and the efforts of the crew were memorable. Don't miss it!
