Chapel of the Holy Cross
Designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright student, Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel was built in 1956 and rises 200 feet from the ground between two large red rock formations. One of the most distinctive features is a 90-foot cross, which can be seen from the ground along State Route 179. A massive stained glass window turns the chapel's interior into a kaleidoscope of color at certain times of the day. No services are held here, but it provides an ideal setting for spiritual reflection and prayer as well as incredible views of the Red Rocks. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Leave your personal issues and troubles in your car. Take your camera and try not to look like a tourist while visiting this spiritual chapel.
The views of the surrounding red rock cliffs are spectacular. Compose your camera shots and capture the pristine and luster of the scenery.
The architecture of the chapel is non-secular. The inside and outside of the chapel have an aura of calmness that you will take home with you. The 90 foot cross that supports the front of the chapel's structdure is decorated with sky-high windows affording views beyond divinity and into God's country. Tell the parking attendant and gift shop workers that Ben Campbell, the author of the novel, Dubrovnik, sent you. Enjoy.
I loved it! Beautiful peaceful up there. I love the windows that you can look out and see the views of the red rocks. A very spiritual place. Great drive. I loved the native americans that were selling jewelery up there too. A good place to pray and feel at peace. The interior of the church has lots of candles.
