Enjoyed it but hadn't realized I had been there before
By ,
We were invited to lunch by a business associate who suggested Rene's. He had asked if we had ever been there before and we replied no because we thought we hadn't. When we got there we both had realized we were there once before while on vacation in Sedona. Now were locals. For some reason back then it did not impress us enough to remember it. The second time around was pleasant. The food was really good! We haven't had a chance to go back but when we discuss where we should go it does come up in conversation to atleast try again in the near future.

Horrible Service
By ,
This resturaunt was highly recommended by clients of mine who enjoy good food, good wine, & are constantly travelling but we were absolutely horrified by the service we received. I made reservations about a month ahead & we were greeted luke warm, it took about 5 minutes or longer to get menus which we had to flag down the hostess to even get them & to order a before dinner drink was next to impossible. I saw the bus boy more than I saw our waiter who did not greet us for at least 10-15 minutes. It's only saving grace was the food itself but unfortunately we received better serve at the local diner for breakfast after ballooning one morning & paid about 1/16th of the price. I have been in the customer service business for over 15 years & run a million dollar plus salon & spa in Manhattan so I have some notion on how I should be treated. I am not a high maintenance person & do not like to "act" like my demanding, obnoxious clients can get but I expect to be treated nicely & acknowledged. I have been dining out for a long time & do so more often then I probably should & this is the 1st time I have ever left a resturaunt leaving under a 15% tip, not having more than 1 drink, & not having dessert & coffee. We should have gone with our 1st instinct & walked out!

I would easily recommend this place
By ,
We had just gotten into Sedona after a long flight and then drive from PHX. We checked into our hotel and started to wonder around. Luckily we happened onto this restaurant with a french cafe setting. DRINK was a little on the expensive side. $9 for a glass of Merlot. FOOD was some of the best I have ever had. We had the stuffed mushrooms with lobster and it was great (I dont eat seafood and I liked it). Wife had the Dover Sole and she loved it. Once again I thought it was very good and I do not eat seafood. I had the Filet Mingon and I would put it in the top 3 filets I have ever had. SERVICE was as good as you could ask for. AMBIANCE is the only area where this place could benifit from. My chair was a broken and the seat kept seperating from the rest of the chair and it was just not as romantic to me (No soaring views or anything like that.) VALUE I would love to give this place a 5 here but I cannot. Our bill was $105 with 2 glasses of wine, an app, and the entrees. I think the wine was a little expensive but it would not stop me from going back. It was great. If a Sedona restaurant could offer that food and service with views of the Red Rocks then I would think about going somewhere else next time.

Be Careful If It Rains!
By ,
When making patio seating reservations 1 month in advance, be certain to check the extended weather forcast, if cold and rainy, there is no budging on trying to seat you inside unless you want to seat in the middle of the bar area at a postage stamp table. April 21, 2007, we had hoped to enjoy our anniversary at Rene's. We arrived, appropriately dressed, saw the patio was not in use except by smoking employees, so we politely and quietly asked if we could sit inside because of the weather. The "hostess" of the day was rude, said we made the outside reservation and we had to live with it, unless we wanted that small table. Other tables were empty of customers. She was rude and offered no reasonable alternative . I said perhaps we should try somewhere else. The "hostess" came around from her "podium" and open the exit door and said goodbye. We left as quietly as we arrived, admired the surroundings, but flabbergasted with the "service" Be AWARE!!

Romace and Great Food
By ,
We had dinner at Rene's to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. Even though ours is an alternative marriage unrecognized in most state of the USA, we were treated like any other couple celebrating their marriage, maybe better. The food was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves.

Less than ordinary
By ,
Having had this restaurant recommended we became really disappointed when we went there for dinner. We will for sure not have dinner at Rene again! Several issues combined with a price level that left a lot to wish for made this a bad experience. First of all we were forgot by the waiters for about 15 minutes upon arrival. Secondly, the waiter that was responsible for our table was extremely unattentive, i.e., did not bring menus until we explicitely asked for it, did not ask to how the food was, did not converse beyond pure serving the food, and did not catch when we were out of drinks. Thirdly, the food was a real disappointment. The lobster bisque hardly tasted from lobster, and was clearly made with starch rather than cream and reduced lobster fond - tasteless. We complained and got new appetizers! The main dish, Tenderloin of Venison, was also a disappointment. The meat itself was sort of okay but the presentation was uninspiring and boring. All in all Rene is a wanna-be restaurant that pretends to be a whole lot more than it can deliver. We cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A place for \"you and her\"
By ,
We ate here on our last night in Sedona...My wife had Salmon cooked on a cedar plank and she remarked that it was the best Salmon she had ever eaten....anywhere... My steak was cooked to perfection and the food was beautifully presented. The ambiance was warm and friendly as was the service...I will say the food was a little high in price but..."who cares"...If you want to have something to talk about when you get home you have to go here...

Rene's: Food Amazing, but needing some changes
By ,
We have always visited Rene's for dinner over the last 10 years, on every trip we've made to Sedona. The food is always consistent and amazing, service is excellent, and the ambiance enjoyable. We were greeted on our last visit by the hostess, whom we found out after our dining experience, is also the owner. We truly enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and our server was good, not as excellent as before, apparently alot of staff changes have happened. The professionalism of the restaurant has gone down, our server was good, but not exceptional as all of our past visits have been. And the owner, well she needs some lessons on people skills. She came off as arrogant and cold, as if we were not good enough for her establishment, this was a complete difference from previous visits, in which I mentioned before, we hadn't known she was the owner. Rene's has always been our favorite place to visit, the food still remains amazing, but it seems some renovations need to be made with the owner and staff.

We have been going for years!
By ,
Whenever we have guests in our Arizona home we made a day trip to Sedona and Rene's is our favorite place to eat. We have been going for years. We love the intimate atmosphere and romantic touches. We have always enjoyed the food. There is something on the menu for everyone whether a classic burger or something more exotic. On our recent visit we were delighted with the English Pea cakes as appetizers. Only once were we disappointed, we had come from a long drive to the Grand Canyon and stopped for dinner so we were not "dressed" and were treated like we did not belong. We are so glad that this poor treatment did not keep us from coming back. Everyone has a bad day! Our server this time was a delight in comparison. We would like the pea cake recipe but cannot find an email to ask for it.
