Goldfield Ghost Town
Head out to the only authentic ghost town in the valley at the foot of the Superstition Mountains. Learn of the mystery surrounding the Lost Dutchman Mine and tour an actual historic shaft. Other features include re-enacted gunfights, a narrow-gauge railroad, a mining equipment museum as well as little shops and eateries. See website for complete list of activities and merchants at the Goldfield Ghost Town. A great place for a family day out.
We enjoyed the mine tour, train ride, The Mystery Shack, Street gunfight. The only flaw in our trip was after paying for cash for senior tickets for (4) events the indivudual who lead the mine tour did not give us our paper tickets for the followon tour. It was an incovenience to my wife & I. Overall the Grand Kids enjoyed panning for gold. I would recommend for families with childern 8 yrs & up.
Goldfield is a wonderful place so close to the Superstition that that in itself is a wonderful thing about it. The smell of fresh waffle cones permeating the air is pure heaven. There is plenty to look at for free -it's a wonderful place for photography. The attractions are reasonably priced and the grill next to the ice cream shop is a great place to grab lunch. There's often live entertainment at the saloon by a very talented man who takes request and performs them awesomely. There are a few merchants there who create their art right in front of you -the horseshoe guy(San Tan Metal Art) has awesome works of art, Mudslinger has wonderful ceramics and Monika at Monika's Gallery interprets the southwest landscape quite beautifully -all 3 have excellent prices on their work, in fact I think they charge too little. Goldfield is a wonderful place to spend the day I say! Give it a whirl.
My family and I went here after reading the awesome reviews everyone had given it. Apparently, a lot has changed since the last review in 2008! It is much smaller than we expected and every single building has been turned into a store with everything overpriced. It is basically a mini strip mall. The reptile museum was barely bigger than my bathroom and looked like some kid set it up in his spare time with old aquariums. The only thing they don't charge you for is the gun show, and that was very poor and lasted less than 5 minutes. Three saloon girls came out asking "Where all the men are" when a bounty hunter walks up and asks for someone. He comes out of the saloon and the bounty hunter shoots him after an argument. The sheriff hears it and comes out with two other guys. The bounty hunter shoots the two other guys and tries to shoot the sherriff, but he shoots him instead; that's it. Not worth the drive or the money.
We recently visited Goldfield Ghost Town. It was really fun. It is full of interesting history and very authentic looking. There was so much to do...ride a narrow gage train, go in to a mine, see the many Arizona reptiles in the museum, pan for gold, shopping and food. There were even street performers playing the fiddle. All in all a great day.
However be prepared to spend some money. Nothing is free or cheap, but worth the fun. Also we were there in March and it was already blazing hot so wear sunscreen and bring lots of water, it is a dry dusty place.
The town has a realistic feel to it, the mine tour was awesome, the food and Ice cream was great the girl working in the ice cream was making the cones as quick as they were selling them (delicious by the way!) I loved bringing my family here! Prices were not expensive at all!
I have already been there a couple of times when I use to live in Apache Junction around 6 years ago, And had a very good time on both of my short one day visits there.
I would recamend a vist there for a good time and to see what it could of been like to live in the old west.Even though I knew that times have changed so much since the old western days compared to the more modern days of today, They had put on a very realistic old west gun fight show in the main street of this old small western town.
Loved Goldfield, the people, the ambiance, the PRICES! We also went to the OK Corral stables for a tour on horseback. (right next to Goldfield) These folks know how to treat people, awesome job by all the guides. And you cannot beat the prices! We'll be repeat customers!
To the Ladies & Gentlemen at Goldfield, Thank You for a wonderfull experience!
We will always remember our trip to the Goldfield Ghost town, it is a place the whole family will enjoy. There are lots of things to see, and do. The gun show was awesome, I would reccomend taking the time to watch it. The Saloon Restaurant had very good food, you would walk out very satified.
Great time! Many attractions! More than a day's worth of sights and perfect sunsets on The Mammoth's east porch with perfect views of the Superstition Mountains! Don't drive home and get blinded by the sunset, stay and watch it on the mountain 2 miles away! Easy on the pocketbook and great for families!
