Zipps Burgers & Billiards
Venture in to this neighborhood bar and grill, where the burgers are juicy and the beer is cold. Find out the score while you sip your brew during Happy Hour (from 4p-6p Monday through Friday). Play on drop-pocket billiard tables while you discuss the day's events with co-workers, or share your cigar stash with the group in the glass-enclosed smoking area. Here you will find a comfortable spot in which to unwind from your day.
This place has the best burgers - and the pizza is fantastic!! Love the happy hour and daily specials ~ this is definitely a place to check out. The Zipps on Greenway seems to be run a lot less efficiently than the one on Via De Ventura. The one on Greeway last week didn't have ANY chardonney and would not substitute another wine for the same price - restrooms were dirty - food was cold. I will avoid that location at all costs. I will drive the extra minutes to Via de Ventura - always have had great experiences there!
If you're into chicken wings, look this place up. The hot really means hot. I usually can't get the food hot enough, but here hot means hot. The extreme or suicide version is unbearable. I don't wish for you to test the waters, but if you think you're man enough (gender irrelevant) order them up, you'll enjoy.
Went to Zipps to watch the Suns game, we had a party of 9 but we all didnt arrive at the same time, we were told they wouldnt seat our party until at least for of us were there, which i can understand not wanting to take up big tables for small groups except others were being sat at big tables in groups of two, guess they are regulars. Secondly was told couldnt smoke in section i was sitting in until 9Pm which is fine except at 9 pm it became 10pm, and at 10pm it became until after the game was over, which is not that big of deal as i was told by the hostess, and not very nicely i might add, I told her I managed a sports bar and it might not have been a big deal if I wasnt told a different story three times. The servivce not so great either server kept forgetting about us and my friend ordered a drink it took 2 reminders and 20 minutes before he got it, great looking servers but maybe they should hire on brains and not looks!!!
A Cheers bar this is not! No smiles for the customers but you do get to here a lot of staff complaining about the other guests. There is ever changing rules applied to certain drink limits, none with others, and surprise cut offs of people not related to their condition but the whim and attitude of servers and management. Add that to the slow service and tip griping that is said out loud and you can start to imagine why this is just not the place you want to be. A shame considering it is a great building with all the bells and whistles that you would want in a sports bar. Now if you are one who likes to have servers and managers argue with you when you ask for any clarification, then you are among the few that are there and its like being in your disfunctional home! Corporate would be well off hiding this store.
I have frequented Zipps a few times over the years, at all of their Scottsdale locations. One night after work I went to Zipps on Camelback for Happy Hour. I ordered a margarita. I did not get carded, which is fine since I am almost 30.
A few days later I went to the Zipps on Hayden and Via de Ventura after a sushi dinner. My friend and I are both professionals, were dressed well and were tired of the clubs that night so went to grab a beer and play darts. We ordered two bud lights and were asked for ID. My drivers license is a little dirty from being in my old wallet for years. They asked for another form of ID. I gave a credit card. The bartender brought the ID to the manager, and some kid who was most likely younger than 25 told me he wouldn't accept my ID. He would not serve me, despite the fact that I'm clearly older than 21, my friend who is 29 was with me, we looked grown up and professional.
I asked for the owner's name and phone number, and was given the GM's name and number. I asked again for the owner's name. I got it and called him immediately. He called back several days later and told me he talked to his staff and there was nothing he could do because they have to be very careful when serving people.
So, if they have to be so careful, how come the policy isn't the same at the Camelback location?
Zipps isn't good enough for me to ever go back or stress too much about their horrible customer service. I would suggest as a business, they use better judgement when turning away good, paying customers.
My experience with Zipps has been a great one up until last weekend. Maybe it's just the new location,(Greenway) managed by Jeremey Higgins. For years I have treated clients and ex-college buddies to a good time of cocktails, food and college football at Zipps. I arrived at noon, explained that my group would "be here until 8pm" because the Longhorn game was coming on. After spending money on food and drinks, 5:30pm came along. Ready for the Longhorn game. I was told by the manager that someone else asked for all of the games first. Very dissapointing to myself and guests that I had in from town who were looking forward to watching the game. Not even a "I'm sorry". I am Vice President of sales, for a very large company in the Valley and I would never provide my service in the fashion that was delivered last Saturday! My advice would be to ask in advance if you are there to watch a game but since I did that... 4 hours in advance, my advice would be don't expect the service that the other sports bars in town are willing and able to deliver!
