Pink Pony Steak House
In the days when downtown Scottsdale was truly still "the West's most western town," this venerable venue was THE place to gather. For many, it still is. The dining room is cowboy, but the bar is purely a sports shrine. Baseball's Cactus League games are played at the nearby Scottsdale Stadium and both players and fans can be found drinking and dining. Steaks and prime ribs hit home runs here. All of your classic American favorites can be found on the menu. Dinners are mostly between $10-$20.
Before going, I read the other reviews to get an idea of what to expect. Walking in was like stepping into the past - a high end supper club from maybe the 50's. The linens were clean and crisp. The service could not have been more attentive. My husband and I shared the prime rib (enormous!) and we agreed, we had never seen such a luscious and large piece of meat. I've never been a fan of prime rib, but this definitely changed my vote - I'll get it again! The baked potato WAS actually baked ... not sitting on some steam table like most. Even sharing (they do charge for an extra plate if needed - I didn't) we did not have room for dessert. Note: they do automatically add the tip to the bill, but our waitress made sure that we knew that beforehand. By the way, we're in our 50's and the experience reminded us of places our parents might have gone to that were for special occasions only. Minor dislike: the house steak sauce was like ketchup, in my opinion.
I had high expectations of this place only to be let down. The food was one step above Denny's. I was astonished to pay $30 for a dinner that I could of unwrapped out of a Hungry Man box. The swordfish was rubbery, the ribeye thin, and the filet was tough. The only saving grace was the book of matches on the way out.
Fair prices, friendly and very ATTENTIVE staff provided a tasty meal with good portions in a timely manner.
Our out of town guest saw it while driving around town and we, never having heard of it before, said "OK, lets go!"
We couldn't have had a better outing if we had planned something in advance.
**PLEASE NOTE** I am frequently difficult to please. It is rare for me not to find SOMETHING to complain about....
The Pink Pony is one of the few places in Scottsdale where you can actually eat a great steak for a reasonable price and get a drink to match. The wine list is decent, the house salad dressing with bleu cheese crumbles is top die for. The baseball pictures and bats are a reminder of how life used to be!! The best thing about the Pink Pony though...... The waitresses (no waiters). They are kind, courteous and very down to earth. sk for Diana, Christina or Loyanne(sp)? You will not be disappointed. They are all very nice and kind... I have been there several times!!!
The atmosphere is great, the food is great, the drinks are wonderful. Steve the singer is a character. However, I feel the resteraunt needs remodeling, such as fresh paint, new floors, updated bathroom facilities. I'm not saying to change the atmosphere or the sports pictures, the place just a major overhaul in cleaning.
I love the Pink Pony and go there for all my special occasions as I have for the past 7 years. As I read through the reviews I had to laugh because first of all, the 10% guy had way too much time on his hands for such a long review. Bottom line for you pal, they dont want your 10%.Amateurs go to Coco's. If you were to read your "coupon" that you pulled off the internet you would have noticed that the thing says gratuity added. It is NOT their general practice. Secondly, do you suppose the girl who didnt like the pasta dishes read the building? STEAKHOUSE,sweetheart. STEAKHOUSE!! Last but not least, c'mon, the chicken fried STEAK didnt taste like chicken? Really? Wonder why. That place is awesome, always has been, always will be.
My son & I came to town in 2006 for spring training & found out about The Pink Pony from a local bartender who said it was not to be missed. Boy was he right! The food was great & the room ambience was spectacular. I'm coming back in 2007 with my wife & daughter. This place shouldn't be missed!

I am moved to write this review in response to the negative ones posted, particularly the 40-something "kid." Yep, I'm over 60, but look 50...lived, traveled and eaten all over the globe...I love a good, reasonable steak and a restaurant that has some atmosphere other than a perky server who treats you like you are his or her long lost cousin...the Pink Pony is a place I usually tried to get to regularly while living in the Valley of the Sun...and when I return this weekend, I will go there again...the atmosphere is very retro, actually very urban in a way...go to Sardi's in NYC and check out the tables that have you elbow to elbow...no one with any sophistication seems to mind...this is a gem of a restaurant originally established by one of the first restaurant pioneers in Scottsdale/Phoenix...so, give it a try...but do make reservations during Spring Training...!
I love the Pink Pony, I love that it is old and has character. The wait staff being older in my opinion ROCKS!! This is a great, casual place to go have a good staek and some relaxation. This is not a trendy place, it is a historical landmark.
The service, food and atmosphere have always been great everytime I've been there. We send a lot of our out of town business clients there and they always rave about how great it is. It is not for the uptight, it's a place for people who appreciate the character in places that have been around for 50 years!
BTW, 10% as a standard tip? I'd have to say I would be mortified if anyone I ever had dinner with left a 10% tip. I've been in the restaurant business for 20 years and I have never heard of that, even 20 years ago when I worked at cheap diner I would have been insulted by that.
Fantastic food, service and great value for money.
I ate in there 3 consecutive nights
Try the 12oz Ribeye (not to be missed!!!)
Waiting staff extremely professional and courteous
If you are in Scottsdale you really need to make the effort and try out at least one night if not 2
