The park was closed without warning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/11
We came down there by 6PM only to find the gate closed after 3PM due to high risk of fire. I checked the city web site before going and did not see anything about this closure. Very disappointed.

Perfect
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/30/11
I'm a student from NZ visiting my girlfriend who lives in Phoenix, I was here 6 months ago and had asked about the big red lights on top of the hill. This time around we decided to head straight for them and see what we can see. The results of which was this park. We visited three view points while there, two looking to the east over the city and the third looking north west giving a view of the sunset behind the mountains. All provided quite stunning views. Beware that despite its enormity the park is very popular so if your plan is to shoot up and watch the sunset don't be disappointed it's a little congested. Have a little patience and you will be rewarded. Make sure you hang around untill after the night falls and phoenix lights up. So if your ever looking to kill a night, grab a pizza with someone you love and head towards the big red lights. There are also extensive walking tracks which i will review when done.

Visited family in Pheonix for the first time and drove to to top to a look out, the views were breathtaking! It was cold which I guess is unusual for Arizona?

Phenominal

You can truly appreciate the beauty that God has put before us. It is a place of security and solitude. If you go to Phoenix and you dont go to South Mountain.. you are missing out on one of God's beautiful tapestries.

I miss this place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/08
I grew up in Phoenix, living there until my mid-thirties, and can remember the many times I drove with family and friends up to the top. The view of the Valley at night is spectacular and not to be missed. Enjoy!

The ride up is so much fun
By Joy W, 1/25/08
My lovely brother who died this last November/07, used to take me up this incredible mountain. We would ride in his Jeep Wrangler, and go up the twist and turns of the mountain. Higher and higher, and then when you get to the top, the view is so wonderful. And not only that there is a cool old fort up there, that people sit in, and look out at the gorgeous view. This place is so special that I am taking some of my brothers ashes and releasing them up there.

BEAUTIFUL!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/07
I have been there two times. First time was my first trip to Arizona. The second time I went to Arizona, South Mountain was a "MUST SEE AGAIN" place. I love it there.
