The regulars here probably still refer to this restaurant as the Lone Star, its former name. Other than the name, not much has changed at this favorite mid-town haunt. Chicken-fried steak is still a menu staple and the steaks, burgers and other Texas treasures are still washed down with a longneck lager. The Texas tone is set with stuffed armadillos and Lone Star license plates tacked up on the walls. Dinners range $8-18 with your choice of sides. Try the mortar-like mashed potatoes!
The Chicken fried steak is by far the best you will ever...ever have! I have tried chicken fried steak all over the world...TEXAZ GRILL has perfected the recipe. Not to mention the portion size! HUGE! Food Perfect, Service Perfect, Value Perfect...The ambiance is only ok. It's very small...crowded feel. It's smokey & dark. We don't take our children, even though others do. The smoking section may as well be the whole restaurant! If you hate second hand smoke feel...get take out. The decor is very shabby chic...cool looking.
I eat at Texaz Grill every time I visit Phoenix. Although the Chicken Fried Steak is tremendous, I also love the gigantic shrimp dinner, they are the size of a chicken drumstick!! Everything is great! I especially love the colored armadillos on the walls and the metal horn-toads on the outside walls!! A truly great place to eat!
