Oak Creek Canyon

Description

Rand-McNally named Highway 89's panoramic path through Oak Creek Canyon one of the most beautiful drives in America, designating it Arizona's first scenic route. Towering trees line the beds of Oak Creek, whose natural springs are said to have healing powers. The water winds through mountain shadows to Sedona's famed red rock vistas. Four mild seasons support a canyon kaleidoscope of wildlife, foliage, and fun. Attractions include hiking, biking and trout fishing and be sure to stop at the Slide Rock State Park.

One day I'll go home!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/10
I have been to and thru every corner of Arizona and there is no place as breathtaking as Sedona. I made it the focal point of my entire venture. Sedona is God's special gift and everyone shoud parttake at least once in their lives. One day I'll return to Arizona. It's where I want to live out my golden years.

Outstanding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/07
I loved Oak creek canyon the ride down from 89A is stunning. And when you get to sedona you can just stop creek side and take in the beauty. In the summer it is a great way to cool off.

Scenic & Fun
So scenic, especially in the lower portion. The state park, Slide Rock, is a lot of fun. It's a natural water park, with gorgeous *cool* clear water cascading over rock. A channel has been worn, punctuated with pools. An info board by the entry gate reports the day's water & air temperatures. There is a cute little gift & snack shop, historic buildings & apple orchard (apples available in the shop in season -- an edible souvenir). I'm told there is a place to catch trout, grill it, and eat it.

I wish, I could live there.
By Krys, 3/3/07
I love it. It is so beautiful. We had so much fun on "Slide Rock", the water is clear and crispy cold. The blue sky and red rocks, o mother nature! what a site! I fall in love with Arizona, I wish, I could live near Sedona. I highly recommended: Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Grand Canyon. We also visited Flagstaff, Page(just beautiful),Jerome, Prescott, Pheonix,Show Low and more. You have to see it yourself.

Beautiful trail
By Threedegrees, 12/7/06
We spent 2 hours walking the West Trail and were nowhere near the end, but every turn had a great view and new site. The trail is at the bottom of a canyon with jagged cliffs towering above. With a stream winding through the canyon the trail crosses the stream several times which adds to the interest (and the ability to get wet when you cross the rocks - it is not too hard)

Great Drive
By Kris, 11/17/05
Taking a drive through Oak Creek Canyon is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have in the Sedona area. Winding down into a canyon and driving along a creek surrounded by gorgeous trees. A very relaxing and peaceful experience. There are charming little cabins and attractions along the way. Definitely recommended.

Our Favorite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/05
We spent most of our trip sweating in the rocks. It was not until our last day that we drove a couple of miles north and discovered another world around the canyon. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and not so hot. Do not ignore this area like we did at first!

Oak Creek Relaxation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/21/05
Oak creek is the location to be if you are looking for beauty, nature and relaxation time. Easy access at just about any point and beautiful at all times of year. The water is so cool and clean that you just don't want to get out. Visiting Slide rock and dive off the cliffs or Grasshopper Point if you like it a little more exclusive and less crowded. No Facicilities @ Grashopper point though; Slide Rock is a great place for the family to go and picnic and enjoy sometime in the sun and it has facilities. Definitely both are to be visited, my family and friends take a trip to Oak Creek at least once a year! :) Have fun!
