Point Woronzof

Description

Often used as a photogenic vantage point from atop a high bluff, this geographic wonder is a terrific place to watch the lights twinkle in the city. Here, you can catch the aurora borealis when it's dark or the northwest views of Mt. Susitna (also known as the Sleeping Lady) during daylight hours. Also in the northwest distance is the Alaskan Range with Mt. McKinley and Mt. Foraker standing out in clear skies. This is a no fee area.

It rocks!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/07
I took my kids to this park to simply take pictures from the car. A jet flew directly over our heads, and the kids wanted to stay to explore. We climbed down the rocks. With help, even my 3 y.o. made it. We spent the hour skipping rocks and collecting the most unusual ones. Other kids on the beach were swimming and scaling the cliffs. Many families were walking, some with dogs. The view was beautiful. Very relaxing way to spend some time.

Great view of the city
By Heather, 9/15/06
We headed out here after dark and never left the car. It is a great spot to sit and watch the city lights. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful. We had hoped to see the northern lights, but sadly the cloud cover never broke. I can certainly see why this would be the place to go though.

Private beach walk
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/17/05
Steep downhill walk to base of cliff. Beach walk at base of cliff, jets flying directly overhead (taking off from Anchorage International airport), birds nesting in holes dug in cliffs, possible to walk in winter on snow and ice. Amazing views of Cook Inlet, city of Anchorage in distance. Baluga whale sightings - occassionally. Dogs can run free if on command. I loved walking the beach in all kinds of weather, year round. If mud flats are present.... STAY CLEAR! Also beware of tide schedules, you could be seriously trapped by the water with little or no escape. Just use caution. Very few people take advantage of this adventure on the outskirts of town.
