Unhappy Iditarod Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/20/08
We chartered a Rust's flight to take a group to Rainy Pass checkpoint during the 2008 Iditarod. Due to the size of our group - 2 planes were required. It was our understanding that our pilot would remain with the group and take us back to Anchorage approximately 4 hours later. He left, however, and failed to return for us. The 2nd pilot returned early to pick up part of our group and indicated bad weather was approaching. When our pilot left he indicated that he had no knowledge of picking us back up that day, stated that the weather was expected to take a turn for the worse, and that we needed to just realize we were in Alaska. We were stranded at the Rainy Pass checkpoint with only the clothes on our backs for 3 days and received an invoice from the owners of the lodge for a cot rental charge of $175/night to stay in lodging with limited heat and no running water. I feel that Rust's should have advised us prior to boarding the charter of this but did not. I would never use this charter service again.
