We are Grateful...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/7/11
I am very grateful that we have a library to attend. My children and I have been frequenting the library for many years and we enjoy the staff and the atmosphere. Personally I'd like to thank each every employee, volunteer parent and child for making the Loussac Library what it is today. I am sure there is more to come! Keep moving forward and keep believing the best is yet to come! Thanks for all you do!!!

Ugh...this library is horrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/3/11
I had high hopes for this library but it's just awful. First of all, it stinks. Literally. It's really dirty inside and seems to have been horribly maintained. It smells like stale urine. Gross. Second of all, with the exception of an older gentleman, all of the library workers are so cranky! They don't smile, or greet you, or answer questions nicely. They are stern, angry, and fit the stereotypical "tense, angry, uber-serious librarian." Moving on, the books are so old and worn that I was shocked the first time I visited! I have never seen so many old, completely outdated books still in circulation! They're ripped, stained, and from the 70s. There have been so many times I've gone to the library looking for a book and they rarely have what I'm looking for. But if you're looking for a book from 1971 with nasty pages, this is the place for you! The library policies are horrible as well. The check out time for DVDs is a mere 7 days! And if those go overdue, the fine is $1 a day! That is completely outrageous. This applies to ALL DVDs, not just new releases or those in high demand. And the fines for other materials are also sky-high. Ridiculous. I keep going back because I normally love libraries, but every time I go, I regret it. I walk out cranky and disgusted. Smelly building, cranky librarians, gross old books, and incredibly punitive policies. Go to Barnes and Noble or TitleWave books and skip the library. I never thought I'd say that, but Loussac, you stink.

Comfy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/10
I love it there. I find it comfortable, and quiet. You can go on line on one of the computers, or bring your own wi-fi device and go online with it. The staff are nice and can show u around what ever you need.

Loussac Library
By sunnyak, 11/30/07
Beautiful building....not well layed out. Very difficult to get around in. Seems they spent their money on the building and not books. A real shame for a city the size of Anchorage.

I think I liked the Loussac Library because it is very easy to find books, is very laid out , and has several very comfortable reading area. Another plus is the events that go on there and the coffee shop there.

Free internet!
By steve, 2/5/07
needed to have a quiet place to do some work while on the road, and found they had free internet, in addition to an interesting section on alaska (well, duh!) also, a great little coffee shop with reasonable prices.

Loussac-Anchorage's castle
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/06
Loussac Library is the heart of the Anchorage Community. Outside next to the parking lot the wonderful fountain is surrounded by colorful flowers in the summer and becomes an ice sculpture during winter. The first level contains the Assembly Chambers, the center of local government on Tuesday nights. The Wilda Marston Theatre is an intimate atmosphere for audiences and features programs of all kinds thoughout the year. The library is airy and light with expansive spaces that help fight the cabin fever so common locally in winter. A glass atruim graces the entrance area, right next to the library cafe. The veranda area outside the Level 2 entrance is a great place to picnic and, during summer, the location for regular outdoor music concerts. Loussac has lots of computers to serve locals and summer visitors. The Alaska Wing is amazing with a luxurious reception area next to the round two-level structure that houses all publications about Alaska and by Alaska writers. The Alaska librarians are so knowledgable about the state. The library itself has lots of room for sitting and reading amongst the shelves. The building turns 20 this year and lots of events are being planned to celebrate this anniversary. It's a great place to visit, to hang out, to get information and to relax with a cup of coffee.

Lovin' my Local Library
By Katelyn, 8/18/05
I love to just go to the loussac and read my books. It is a great atmosphere, with lots of friendly staff. Ireally hate it when I have to leave! Another great thing about it, is there is a cafe right next door, so I can stay and not get hungry. I also love that I can not only take out ooks, but movies, books on tape, and Cd's too!! In addition I learned how to speak Spanish with the language material they have. I love my Local Library and can't wait to go back! With all of these good things to say, I do have one bad. I would really like to see the poetry section expand. I think it needs more poetry books, with poetry in them, not so much the stuff about poetry. Sincerely, A local bookworm
