Peanut Depot (the)

Description

Since 1907, this historic building's ovens have been roasting thousands of pounds of peanuts for sports stadiums across the Southeast, grocery stores and hungry passersby. Try a bag of hot, freshly roasted goober peas. You can purchase 30-pound boxes or even a whole truckload.

One of the best things in Birmingham
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/13/09
Down a old, narrow, brick street in a seemingly old part of town we came upon The Peanut Depot. Dark, dirty and smelling great they generously let us sample several styles and preparations resulting in purchasing a lot of peanuts. Definately find it and bring cash.......

Great place to visit!
By Shannon D, 1/22/09
The owner was manning the counter and took time to show us how the equipment worked. He took alot of time to talk with us. The peanuts are great. We purchased salted and cajun. The cajun are very hot but oh so good. He let us sample the boiled peanuts. Did not care for them, but was nice of him to let us try them, Highly recommend you visit this place and get some hot peanuts They are great

History in a Nutshell!
By Lisa Fulbright, 12/31/08
I was looking for something that took me back in time to historic Birmingham, and the Peanut Depot was my final stop. It's nice that something hasn't changed.

Everytime I'm in the area I'm there!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/08
The hot roasted peanuts are sooo good, we have half of our bag eaten before we get home. Then we finish the rest of the bag in front of the tv that night!!

Great nuts
By Clark, 12/2/05
The Depot is a landmark in B'ham. The peanuts are roasting right in front of you and so it can get pretty hot in the summer. The peanuts are good, but I found the owner to be a little gruff.

Great Peanuts!!! Nice Tradition
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/05
Buy a big bag because you won't stop eating until your bag is empty or your stomach is full. If you like roasted peanuts you will love the Peanut Depot. Rich in tradition but I'm there for the fresh roasted peanuts not the tradition
