Cafe des Artistes

Description

This renowned cafe claims to be "one of the best restaurants in the world" and has the reviews to support that notion. Chef Thierry Blouet was recently named a Maitre Cuisenaire de France. The menu changes seasonally; a recent offering included grilled lamb chops cooked with local spices and balsamic vinegar, served with a garlic creme brulee. The desserts are also extraordinary. The self-described dress code is "dressy to casual," but you may wish to dress up a bit. Located across the street from the Galerie des Artistes.

Romantic...

Cafe is a little pricey but worth it for a nice romantic evening! The shrimp bisque is served in a pumpkin. It was our anniversary and they put together a beautiful platter of samples of desserts with Happy Anniversary written in Chocolate.. very nice for a special occassion.

I won't be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/06
This place is beautifully decorated and the appetizers were excellent. However, they lost power for over 40 minutes. So, we sat in the candlelit bar and ate and drank but when we were ready to go they had no plan for customers with credit cards. First of all, this restaurant isn't cheap so who is going to be carrying around $200+. The waitress offered us a complimentary glass of wine while we were waiting to leave but came back with the glasses 1/4 full!

Magically is the only word worthy of the experience
By Matthew, 2/1/08
I recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish will be forever engrained into to my memory. The pairing flawless, spot on. The tasting menu guests are sat atop the entire building next to the top of the waterfall. The seating is intimate and the night we were there we were the only people up there until towards the end of our evening. The weather was perfect and the gentle ocean breeze softly brought down flower petals from the tree over head. Our four course meal was amazing. Our server Manuel was genuine and helpful. Plating was timed to precision with the end of our previous course. You could tell that had planned for the stars to allign and they did.

Try the Coffee
Everytning was great, but I especially liked their house specialty coffee made with exprosso coffee, rum, and cognac and topped with a rich cream and carmel wafer. The best drink I've ever had anywhere!

Sweet & Hot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/30/05
Went only for drinks & live music, but we were treated famously. The staff dotes on you, they serve complimentary snacks. Art gallery atmosphere but not stuffy. Bench seating so you can cuddle while being serenaded. Would definately eat there next trip.

It doesn't taste like chicken......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/21/06
We thought the place was a little "pricy", and since it was our last nite in PV, we were running out of cash. Ordered drinks, salads, 1 entree to split between us, and of course, dessert. I swear the chicken entree was a pigeon (or a terrible cornish hen). It was absolutely miniscule. Has anybody else not had a good food experience there, or is it only us?

Loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/29/07
We went in February and the weather was so lovely we could sit outside. The food is terrific without being too fussy. The service staff are attentive and hospitable. Definitely worth a return trip.
