Cafe des Artistes
This renowned cafe claims to be "one of the best restaurants in the world" and has the reviews to support that notion. Chef Thierry Blouet was recently named a Maitre Cuisenaire de France. The menu changes seasonally; a recent offering included grilled lamb chops cooked with local spices and balsamic vinegar, served with a garlic creme brulee. The desserts are also extraordinary. The self-described dress code is "dressy to casual," but you may wish to dress up a bit. Located across the street from the Galerie des Artistes.
I recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish will be forever engrained into to my memory. The pairing flawless, spot on. The tasting menu guests are sat atop the entire building next to the top of the waterfall. The seating is intimate and the night we were there we were the only people up there until towards the end of our evening. The weather was perfect and the gentle ocean breeze softly brought down flower petals from the tree over head. Our four course meal was amazing. Our server Manuel was genuine and helpful. Plating was timed to precision with the end of our previous course. You could tell that had planned for the stars to allign and they did.
First the Architecture of the place is awe inspiring. It was a warm night; we came in through the glass doors, and were amazed at the interior. The Cocktail lounge had a recessed/towered ceiling. In the center of the ceiling a log(s) suspended by a chain, provided an ancher for an inmence colony of Staghorn Ferns.
We had a glass of wine in the lounge while we looked through the wine extensive list of wines.
We asked for a table in the garden, and received one mid-way up the back yard, which is terraced with many decks at differnet levels. Each level/deck providing a setting for a piece of modern sculpture, under an all encompassing living canopy of trees, bamboo, wild fig/ficus, and flowring vines.
The service was impacable, attentive without being intrusive.
The food was well proportioned, with a good combination of flavors.
We've made a packed to always come back for dinner.
They have seperate banquete and large group facilities.
This is the best PV has to offer. It was just a great dining experience. You expect it and get it from Artistes. Had one of the tables outside in the patio area. Great setting. Live piano music in the bar area. Each had salad - for me the fried goat cheese, for the mrs the house salad. Both excellent. For the 'middle' course we had two of their shooters, one with cucumber and the other with sorbet and cheese. Again, both were excellent. For the main course, I had the beef medallions, the mrs had the oso buco. Both just phenomenal, especially when paired with the 2001 Brunello. The best wine list in PV. For dessert, the passion fruit flan was just great. Just a wonderful dining experience. One that you will thoroughly enjoy and get everything that you pay for.
I went to this restaurant only after my wife prodded me into going. I assumed that because it was a French restaurant that I would have to stop at a McDonalds after the meal in order to get filled up. I was totally wrong. The meal was the best I have ever had and we both satisfied our hunger. The service was terrific without being intrusive. It was a pricey meal but well worth the experience. You must sit in their garden court for you meal with the lights on the trees and water fountains all over.
I go each time I visit Puerto Vallarta. It's no wonder why this restaurant is rated among the world's best.
The prawn and pumpkin bisque is a treasured treat and for the ultimate dinning experience order the tasting menu.
Sit in the garden if possible. The large tree that canopies the area gradually showers the guests with petals...very romantic! If you prefer a modern experience the inside seating is for you.
This is such a beautiful and artistic venue that you don't know where to look first. The staff are wonderful, and the food is beyond description. Thierry Blouet is Master Chef, what else can be said. Do not miss an opportunity to see this lovely restaurant and experience the best meal you could have anywhere -- even Paris!
Steak was small - good not great
Bread was stale
Worst soft shell crabs ever
Potato chips cold and greasy
Wine mediocre and expensive
Last year was fantastic but something has gone terribly wrong
I have eaten in Europe, San Francisco, etc. After reading rave reviews of this place I was determined to go. My husband and I went and it was a magical evening. The staff was very unpretentious. There is actually two restaraunts in one building - one more upscale than the other. We were curious, so the hostess graciously gave us a grand tour of the place.
The food was delicious and of the just right portions. The wine was wonderful. The ambiance was serene.
Our waiter showed up at just the right time.
Our bill? $90 dollars for everything for 2. Such a bargain!!!!
