This renowned cafe claims to be "one of the best restaurants in the world" and has the reviews to support that notion. Chef Thierry Blouet was recently named a Maitre Cuisenaire de France. The menu changes seasonally; a recent offering included grilled lamb chops cooked with local spices and balsamic vinegar, served with a garlic creme brulee. The desserts are also extraordinary. The self-described dress code is "dressy to casual," but you may wish to dress up a bit. Located across the street from the Galerie des Artistes.

You're right, it doesnt taste like chicken
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/02/09
I notice all the reviews are dated in 2006. How come no current reviews? Our experience there was very similar to the couple who complained about the minicule chicken. I think it is the restaurant s way of punishing people who split an entree. No way was the chicken entree a chicken. To this day, I swear it was a pigeon. Going back to PV in a few days, maybe try it one more time....

amazing gem
By michael, 12/23/08
On a whim, though we were aware of the reputation of the chef, we stopped by and had dinner in the garden. This was the less formal dining area of the restaurant. The decoration, ambiance and cleanliness are excellent. The food was truly "iron chef" style, or Michelin 2 star food style, with concentrated flavors and a local twist. The chef's present, a shot glass of a mushroom confit prior to the meal was delicious. The pork cube was great. My daughter loved the goat cheese salad, but the smoked tomato soup blew us away - amazingly flavorful and light. The local red snapper veracruz entree was lightly crispy on the outside and not overcooked on the inside. The ribeye medallions and the accompanying potato side melted in the mouth. My wife found the seared tuna to be too bland in comparison. The wine selection is extensive and expensive, however the cocktails are excellent and original - try the tamarind margarita for a differet approach on this classic drink. Overall the ambiance was great, and the value was excellent. We will visit their punta mita location later this week for xmas eve dinner.

Gastronomic Excellence
By , 11/06/08
My husband and I visited Puerto Vallarta this spring and the dinner at Cafe des Artistes was his surprise for our 3rd Anniversary. He had reservations and we were led to the roof terrace and seated next to the waterfall. There was still light at the time and we could see the bay. Huge bamboo surrounded the terrace and white orchids dangled down from the bamboo. As the evening progressed, the white orchids would float down one by one around us. For a romantic evening, the ambiance cannot be beat... so coupled with amazing creations that tantilized our palates & impeccable service, Thierry Blouet had far exceeded my expectations. Both of us selected 3 courses on the tasting menu and my husband had wine pairing with his. It was truly an unforgettable experience and we were treated like kings. The ONE thing that absolutely BLEW our minds was the combination of a local cheese with caramelized beets on our complimentary cheese tray... the 2 together made us taste CHOCOLATE! The chef was insistent on the order in which his creations were consumed. This top of the world experience was priced better than most tasting menus in New Orleans or Denver. Thierry Blouet has made Puerto Vallarta a regular pilgrimage for us and the humpbacks help too. Caution: Be prepared to be disappointed by other chefs once you have been here.

THIS IS TRULY A SPECIAL PLACE TO BE EXPERIENCED. ASK FOR A PODIUM TABLE IN THE GARDEN. TRULY MAGICAL. I MAKE SURE WITH EACH VISIT TO P.V. I GET HERE AT LEAST ONCE. AN EXTRA SURPRISE LAST TIME I WENT WAS RESTAURANT WEEK. THE MEALS WERE UNBELIEVEABLY INEXPENSIVE WHICH PROMPTED US TO ORDER ONE MORE BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE. MAGIC MAGIC MAGIC

Amazing food, amazing service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/10/08
We went to the newest area of the restaurant "Thierry Blouet Cocina de Autor". We were warned it was pricey, but vs. comparable restaurants in the U.S., it's a steal. The food was great, with the seabass being one of the best things I have ever tasted. They put together a beautiful dessert plate for us for our anniversary, and then the executive chef gave us a tour of the whole restaurant and kitchens. So much fun!

Cafe is a little pricey but worth it for a nice romantic evening! The shrimp bisque is served in a pumpkin. It was our anniversary and they put together a beautiful platter of samples of desserts with Happy Anniversary written in Chocolate.. very nice for a special occassion.

Marvelous!!!! Great ambiance!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/27/08
I just love everything, service food, desserts wow!! I can't wait to go back. The garden is just the perfect place for couples, you can feel the history in every wall. The waiters are warm and we receive a great service. There is nothing I can complain about this place.

Saved the best for last
By E, 02/10/08
This was our last meal on our trip to Puerto Vallarta and it was worth the wait. The service, food etc. was great. The only thing that bothered me was being charged $9.00 (U.S.) for a bottle of water, and my husband thought the drinks were skimpy. This was our first experience at Cafe de Artistes in 3 trips to Puerto Vallarta and it will not be the last. We definitley will go back here.

Magically is the only word worthy of the experience
By Matthew, 02/01/08
I recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish will be forever engrained into to my memory. The pairing flawless, spot on. The tasting menu guests are sat atop the entire building next to the top of the waterfall. The seating is intimate and the night we were there we were the only people up there until towards the end of our evening. The weather was perfect and the gentle ocean breeze softly brought down flower petals from the tree over head. Our four course meal was amazing. Our server Manuel was genuine and helpful. Plating was timed to precision with the end of our previous course. You could tell that had planned for the stars to allign and they did.
