River Cafe (The), Puerto Vallarta Centro

I have been eating at this cafe for many years (probably 20 times) and it is always fantastic. Over the years it has grown and has great entertainment. River Cafe along with the Kaiser Maxamillian are must go to spots in Old Town. Don't pass up this lovely, relaxed spot. If you are looking for a fast food eatery stay in the tourist areas. You would pay two or three times this amount in the U.S. or Europe.

We found the River Cafe a few years ago when we were on a month long holiday.. My husband and I must have eaten there 3 times a week to the point they gave us a discount card. Since we bought a condo there we use the card often. The live music, great service and most of all is the food, always fresh, very well presented and tastefull. We are happy we found you......

A lovely romantic location. Food is first rate. Service is most gracious. Have dined there several times. Always a great experience!!! February and March are always a great time to visit.

Food was outstanding, service and atmosphere very good.

the setting is beautiful, we were greeted by the manager/owner very hospitably and as we were early with no reservations we were seated in a lovely section of the restaurant.that is the best part of our eating experience. Our waiter was surly, not a smile or a greeting especially when as seniors we shared our entrees and just the men had drinks.our food was served inoorrectly by wait staff who seemed in a a great hurry. we ordered the apple salad, not impressed, tasted like wilted greens with applesauce.the fish was hohum certainly not worth the money,Then when we paying our check and the 10 per cent tip was added our surly waiter had the audacity to question the tip by asking "was our service not good?". It is a good thing that my husband has a hearing aid and didn't hear him..We eat at wonderful restaurants like the Jass Bistro, La Palapa, Cafe de Artistes but we will never eat at the River Cafe again and will tell all of our acquaintances around the pool of the Sheraton..bad experience

The food here is great and it has a wonderful ambiance. The staff is always wonderful but the reason I go back over and over again is for the best frozen margarita of anywhere!

The atmosphere in the River Cafe is more than you may expect. If you arrive in the early evening, bats can be seen fliting through the trees. A beautiful, wee cat stolls between the tables waiting to be admired and petted. It feel more like you are sitting in a friend's backyard than in a restaurant. The food is excellent and well presented. It seems to be a fusion between true native cuisine and modern nouveau. The native has the upper hand! This is my wife's favourite restaurant in all of the different Mexican cities that we have visited. Each tiome we come back to the area, we have to hit the River Cafe.

IT is the best restaurant in puerto vallarta, the service, the food, the ambiance, every thing was perfect, we visited for lunch and dinner and it was just excellent. If you visit Puerto Vallarta go visit the River Cafe.

We have been to many restaurants in Vallarta (Cafe des Artistes, Le Kliff, among others) and they are great. But the River Caf� is superb! We had dinner there on Sept. 17th. 2004. The food was sublime, the place divine and the service was the best of the best! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHEF!

The River Cafe has all the qualities for a nice night of dining. Ambiance, service & food were very good. The staff was very friendly till we questioned a price on our bill. We don't usually stay very frugal on vacations but, we ordered two bottles of water with our dinner($6.50 US.) a bottle. Maybe our fault not specifying a type of water. But, I'm use to requesting a specialty item, not having it assumed I want the top shelf item. You see their explanation was that the water was from Fiji. Nothing else no apology, no adjustment to the bill. Just cold stares and tension in the air. Except for that nice place. Adios
