This long-established restaurant offers Indonesian, Thai, Chinese and Filipino dishes, all brilliantly prepared. Opened by Archie Alpenia, who initially gained fame as chef to film director John Huston, the restaurant is presently operated by Archie's wife, Cindy, who maintains the tradition of delicious cuisine. The Spicy Thai Noodles are a great contrast to the tasty Hon Soi Ribs. Vegetarians will delight in the many meat-free offerings. The dress code is casual, and a traditionally designed oriental garden offers a cool respite from the Puerto Vallarta sun.
After reading the excellent reviews about Archie's Wok for years, we finally went the other day. Such a wonderful experience.
Everything was delicious & perfectly prepared -- from the delicate & tender calamari, to the phad thai & red curry chicken (which we shared). The most exotic taste was the spicy cilantro/coconut sauce for the calamari, so unusual that we mixed it in the other dishes too....
This restaurant definitely lives up to its reputation & then some! I'm sorry I waited so long.
Definitely, decor and service are superior, but we came for the food. The food was much less remarkable. We had the Singapore chicken which had about 10 chicken balls and a fried rice dish and 2 sodas. Our bill came to 300 pesos. The portions were small, the prices were high and this was one of the cheapest meals. The quality of food you were served was embarrassing and it was like someone tried to cook Chinese food based on a picture that they saw.
We do not recommend this restaurant and am not sure why others do! Unless, they have never eaten in the numerous Chinese restaurants in Canada, which are low priced with huge amounts of well prepared food cooked by an authentic chef. It may come down to what you are used to and the expectation of being billed as a great place to eat. We will never go back.
since Archie past away this resturant has maintained his quality of food there year in and year out. My wife and I have been going there for over 15 years!!
I remember some years back Cindi had a fellow from Hawaii working in the kitchen from time to time. he was the best cook/chef that Archie's Wok had since Archie past away! Not to mention he was a wonderful chap to talk to also. Every year we return we ask the host if anybody has heard from Roger. He was that wonderful cook Cindi had from Hawaii for that one year.
But what really makes 'Archie's Wok' so great year in and year out is Cindi's incredible energy she put into her eatery
A neighbor told me about "Archie's" and added "you HAVE TO try their ribs!" 'Ribs?' ...I thought... 'at a far east cuisine restaurant??' Well, all the appetizers and entrees that my sons and I had were excellent, and the ribs were superb. In fact, my youngest son will just bring it up at random times by saying, "Dad, do you remember those ribs at that 'Wok' place? Man, do I have a taste for those again!"
We were out walking one night and passed Archies and noticed the line up. That usually means it is good and it was excellent. The decor is upscale, the servers are a team and were attentive. The food was amaxing and everyone in . the restaurant felt the same. We only wish we had found it sooner but can hardly wait to go back and also tell all our frineds..Dont miss out, it is a must.
We had the Thai shrimp, ribs, calamari and chicken satay. Each dish just made your mouth water.
We happened to visit Archie's during Restaurant week which meant that we got an excellent meal for twenty something dollars. I still remember my favorite - tiny squid in a basil cream sauce in wontons. Amazing.....
we have been to archie's wok many times , but will never return... the food the last 2 times was awful ...over cooked and either tasteless or so salted that it became un edible... sorry for us..we used to love the place alice cleveland

The food at Archie's is the best of it's kind in PV. My husband and I (over 50)come to this area everytime we come to PV. We love the Romantica Zone with it's restaurant, shops and different atmosphere. The service at Archie's is always attentive and courteous. The food is always fresh and well presented. The harp player gives the restaurant a special relaxing and romantic mood. This restaurant is definitely not to be missed when you're in PV. Give it a try and am sure you'll return. Enjoy!
It could have just been the year I went but they sat my family and I near the only bathroom, flies buzzing around, took forever to get our order taken and the food wasn't all that great. I was disappointed to say the least
