Description

This restaurant enjoys an excellent reputation and serves a select range of English foods. As one would expect, the house specialties represent a sampling of Britain's best. A glance at its menu will reveal delicious dishes such as Beef Wellington, Prime Rib, Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding. As far as the decor is concerned, the restaurant is very Anglo-Saxon in feel, creating a rather serious and formal atmosphere. The high prices here are justified by the quality of the cuisine as well as the pleasant piano music that can be heard from Monday to Saturday between 1pm and 5pm. Jackets are required on weekdays.

Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/1/10
Based on the reviews and friends experiences at this place we had been meaning to try this restaurant out since we arrived in Mexico a year and a half ago. Well we finally got around to it last weekend and I really wished we hadn't bothered. This place may have seen better times in the past but is over priced for what it is and lacks the quality service I was expecting. We started off by ordering Bombay Gin and Tonics. These had to be sent back because the gin was either watered down or it was not Bombay Sapphire. I suspect a house pour! The waiter came back showing us a bottle of the Bombay Sapphire and poured fresh G&Ts. Again, very disappointing as this was not the real thing! The bottle was full which aroused suspicion (where did the previous Gin come from)? I suspect the bottle had been filled with an inferior quality or topped up with water! The service was inattentive. We had to ask for the menus and for bread and the restaurant was not even busy. Not once did any of the waiters refil our wine glasses. The food however was good. But for the price you are paying I expect everything to be good; not just the food. Needless to say this is one place we will not be returning to, which is a shame because this place has a lot of potential.

A piece of Europe away from home
By Boris, 5/10/10
Wonderful place in all its aspects. Outstanding service, food, very friendly and quiet atmosphere, beautiful interiors and adjacent garden. Those who prefer mexican-style parties and argentinian meats should definitely go some other place. So all previous comments regarding this two points can{t be applied to this case.

Etiquete of high standards
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/28/10
I remember we used to go a lot when we were kids and I was amazed at the quality of the food and service and recently we came back after a few years. Indeed its a place like a tudor house from the outside, from the inside looks like a high class traditional house, not that much tudor. Anyhow the food is something difficult to find in Mexico, quality at its best! The service, well before the waiters wouldnt be chatting around with their colleagues, they would be paying attentiopn to a 100% to your every movements, if you were standing up, they would remove the chair for you, drop a fork and straight away you get one, about to finish your drink adn they will ask you adn be already refilling it. However the other when we went, well even tho they are dressed as high category waiters they chat all around with their colleagues, they are not 100% paying attention anymore. The ambiance is great, fantastic, theres a chimney for when getting cold, two pianos and many private rooms offer a piano and one even has a small tea room in it or small say lounge before moving to your private room. The value, well it is expensive indeed for Mexico City, but as any other city in the world has expensive restaurants for some, but affordable for others. It is not for the every person for it is pricey but worth it with that quality of cuisine, and service. I am sorry to hear people are dissapointed for this restaurant has won many awards even at international level and many politicians and high business people national and international level go there too. Thumbs up!

What a joke
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/09
The restaurant is very beautiful but everything is ridiculously overpriced. The beef broth was lacking season and I couldnt understand why they charge $195 pesos for it. I ordered it because I thought it must be something special if they are charging so much for it, I was very dissapointed. The prime rib was no exception either, it wasnt bad but it wasnt great and it should be for what they are charging. $380 pesos for a 7 oz. portion! I wont be returning anytime soon. I had heard that this restaurant isnt what it used to be and now I can see why.

WONDERFUL surroundings! Like an English country mansion with various dining areas. Extremely friendly, great food and service and terrific value for money. Would go back in a heartbeat. Would reccommend to anyone.

England away from home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/07
This restaurant is like stepping back into England. The reception is gracious, the service excellent and the food, fabulous. Although expensive, by London standards it is very inexpensive. A very worthwhile experience which I shall repeat every time I visit Mexico city.

Complete rubbish
By Gnome, 11/4/05
As a native Mexican I think it is outrageous that any foreigner would go all the way to Mexico just to go eat rubbish British food. Mexican cuisine has so many delights to offer but if you'd rather sample food from a nation whose so called "culinary delights" are things like "fish and chips" and "bangers and mash" then by all means do so.
