12-28-2008 visit was great!
We went to the dolphin park on our recent visit to Cancun. I will tell you up front, there are separate charges for park entry and the dolphin swims. You can just go to the park and have a nice time, but that isn´t where the real excitement is.
The park is in geat condition, including the botanical gardens. After signing up for the dolphin swim we spent some time snorkelling. Granted, there were not a lot of fish, but it is a safe location for beginner snorkellers. The beaches are very nice, with plenty of palapa-covered wooden chairs.
Now, on to the dolphin swim...it was absolutely GREAT!!! My wife and I had about half an hour with one trainer and two dolphins (delphines , in Spanish). The animals are quite friendly and trusting, and the trainer keeps the fish flowing to keep the dolphins´ interest. There was a dedicated photographer, as well as a dedicated videographer, for our adventure. At the end we were offered, with a very soft-sell approach, to buy still photos, the video, or a package. We chose to purchase just the video, but could have refused the entire lot without pressure.
We strongly recommend signing up for this adventure if you have the opportunity.
