Punta Este

My husband and I, and our three children, rented a Jeep at the main pier and drove around the island. Our last stop before returning to San Miguel was Punta Este. It was everyone's favorite spot. It was deserted, it was wind swept, but therefore quiet and untouched by tourists. The beach was spotted with coconuts that had washed up from some unknown origin; there was nothing but ocean in front of us and tall grassy area behind us--no trees in sight. The untrampled sand revealed the paths of hundreds of newborn turtles recently making their way to the water. The kids did not want to disturb the turtle tracks, (it seemed more of a preserve than the Sur),so we sat at the back of the beach and just relaxed.
