French Quarter

Description

Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma, the following description may no longer be accurate. Please consider this when making your travel plans. The spacious terrace at the French Quarter overlooks the street below; an ideal place to enjoy the warm Cozumel evenings and the finest Louisiana cooking. If the weather isn't cooperating, head indoors to the air-conditioned dining room and sit at the huge bar or at one of the tables alongside wall murals depicting life in New Orleans. Start your "Bayou Bonanza" with some Cajun Caribbean Chicken Tenders or the Fried Crawdaddy Tails. There is always a pot of gumbo going. An assortment of wines, beers and liquors are also available.

Loved it
We were on our anniversary trip for a few nights in Cozumel. One night we stumbled across the French quarter and noticed they had some games on. The next night we had drinks and dinner. Great food, Jan was so awesome and mike the owner even chatted us up. We even went back the next night for some more baseball playoff action and drinks. We were happy to see the 1st floor busy! Next time we are back in Cozumel, we will definately stop by for the crab cakes and a few cold ones!

Going back tonight
By ,
Food was excellent but we were the only people eating. What a shame! We are now living in Cozumel so we are trying it again tonight. It is Saturday so we are hoping for more customers than just my husband and I.

French Quarter is Great !
in reply to "Cate", the American women behind the bar is Jan. She is from Chicago and just stayed in Cozumel the last time she was there. You can always watch a game on the tv behind the bar while enjoying a cool drink and smoking one of her cigars. If you go in there tell her Mark says hello and to her friend Michaela of Liquid Blue Divers (across the street). PS: the owner is from New Orleans. regards

Best Food In Cuzumel
By ,
We chose the French Quarter for dinner due to its stellar reviews from another website. It's a block in from the main seaside strip so ask a cabbie if you need directions (tip them a buck too if you're nice). The restaurant definitely stands out from among it's surrounding establishments. When you enter you are immediately greeted by a very nice woman (American?) standing behind the bar who directs you up the stairs to the dining area. The setting is romantic and the lighting is perfect. You are immediately brought a basket of hush puppies (excellent) to snack on. The menu is very diverse American Southern-style with chicken strips, kabobs, gumbo, jumbalaya, steak, seafood, and even chicken fried steak to name a few selections. The waiters are locals and speak exceptional English...even being able to list the main ingredients in each dish. The food arrived after a typical wait and was excellent to say the least. As good as the food is, the prices are slightly lower than the fare found on the main strip. Best meal we've had yet on the island.

Wonderful!
By ,
We ended up going to this restaurant twice during our four night stay since it was so good! The staff (both local and the owner from LA) were extremely personable and very willing to take special requests. We found out the place from the local golf course and will certainly return again soon!

Always our favorite
By ,
We were originally introduced to this "off the main street" restaurant by a local business owner... and what a find! It is now our favorite. We are fortunate enough to go to Cozumel 3 or more times a year and a highlight for us is sharing this place with our friends. The food and wine selection, service, and owner, Mike, keep us coming back for more. This is not a typical Mexican restaurant. No chips and salsa here, but incredible fresh fish, lobster, ribs, steaks and Lousiana hushpuppies. We are thrilled that Mother Nature's unpleasant weather only stopped them for a little while. They are up and running and as wonderful as always. DG

\"WOW\" Beautiful Place, Wonderful Food & Great Service
By ,
Just returned from our trip to Cozumel had dinner twice at The French Quarter, grilled fish one night and baby back ribs the second time and both were excellent. (I'm a very picky eater and do not care for a lot of the food in Mexico but this was exceptionally good).
