Cabo Pulmo Marine Park
Since 1993, this has been a National Marine Preserve designated to protect the underwater ecosystem. It is attractive to visitors for several reasons, including that it offers clear water and coral reefs below the surface that provide outstanding scuba diving and snorkeling views. Kayakers regularly arrive here and enjoy close sightings of the sea lion colony nearby. Several resorts are in this area if you choose to stay nearby and many watersport guides and tours are available. This is a good spot for whale viewing in January through March.
Rather than snorkel at the crowded areas around El Arco, we took the TWO HOUR drive to Cabo Pulmo. Well worth it! It's definitely not fancy, like the touristy operations back in Cabo de Lucas. The downside is that the nearest real food is back in Cabo Sna Lucas. Just bring your own picnic lunch!
We had a boat to ourselves for $35 each. Beaches were almost deserted. We went to three different locations - at the sea lion colony, we got to snorkel 20 feet from the sea lions swimming around. They also had kayaks for rent.
