Here's one of the original palapa restaurants still patronized by locals. It's a humble place with a humble decor and extremely good seafood. The specialties are raw oysters and shrimp that cost from $5 USD. Another specialty is red snapper broiled, grilled or fried for $6 USD; both of which are prepared Baja-style. The rest of the menu reflects this flavor as well. For the price, it's worth coming here because being well-fed in this area is generally hard to do with few pesos.
We would eat here every night. You can see the chef's in the kitchen and you know its authentic when its someone's grandma whippin it up. We got our first round of drinks free, chips with different dips (all amazing), free appetizer, 2 lobster tails, a choice of NY steak, scallops, shrimp, or filet for hardly anything at all - i think it was $15. You would be sketched by the price but the flavor and freshness was unbeaten by the resort and other popular spots. Portions were large and came with rice, beans, vegetables, the WORKS, tortillas - definitely going back!!
This is our first time to Cabo and I wanted fresh seafood. If I had not read the review before we went I would not have gone to the restaurant. It has the plastic chairs and tables as all the local places have and I would have been concerned about hygiene. But when we arrived there were two tables of Americans so I felt it was safe.
So glad we stayed! The food was excellent. Not fancy but very fresh seafood. We got the lobster and sea bass and the lobster and scallops. The sea bass was by far the best and we will definitely be back for more. Paid $16 USD per combo plate. I find Cabo on the expensive side but we usually go to an all inclusive, Palace Resort, so I can't really compare.
Trapper's list looks like a great source for restaurants.
thanks for the info!
This little unassuming place has some of the best seafood, at some of the best prices in all of Cabo. Their oysters (when in season) are out of this world, as is nearly all their crustaceans and mollusks. Ask for whatever's freshest, and let the gifted staff blow your socks off. Your wallet won't regret it.
