Le Peel Pub
A downtown university student hangout since the days of sit-ins and anti-war protests, this is the place for cheap, usually edible food, not to mention phenomenally inexpensive draft beer, amid a rah-rah atmosphere. The seating and decor are as basic as you can get. The fare is also basic tavern style grub, with lots of club sandwiches, hamburgers, fries and bafflingly cheap steak dinners. Later in the evening things can get considerably more rowdy; watch for flying wet t-shirts. A meal plus a glass of beer comes in at a reasonable price, so get ready to join in the fun!
I travel to Montreal in March every year with a group of friends and we always make a stop or two at the Peel. Staff is always friendly with good service even when it is extremely busy. The food is great, lots of choice and the prices are reasonable. Ah, but the best is the "sub-zero" Coors draught and the atomsphere.
As an Aussie I love this place. The food's great (cheap brekkies), cheap beer and most waitresess are cute.
If yuo're an anglo in MTL you're safe here, as all the waiting staff speak anglais and are friendly. Most of the clients are anglo students from McGill etc.
I love this place.
This pub is a great place to pop into after a long night of shopping, or just with a bunch of friends. The food is great, and it's unbelievably cheap; greasy spoons can't compete. They have daily specials which are just fantastic; huge bowl of spaghetti and tomato sauce for $1.99. I can honestly say it's my favourite place to eat downtown when I'm on a budget.
