This huge, venerable chicken and ribs joint is a Montreal institution if ever there was one. A favourite for casual business lunches or pre-hockey game dinners, no one leaves with clean fingers. Various chicken and rib combination specials run CAD10-17, and are served with speed and aplomb. Although it can be loud and cramped, and the decor is hilariously tired, it is still surprisingly difficult not to have a good time. It may not suit everyone's tastes, but it's definitely worth a shot. Second location at 3300 Sources Boulevard, near Brunswick, +1 514 683 0225.

Food presentation on the plastic plate is what you would expect when taking place in the restaurant.
Yellowish light, makes you feel like you're sitting near a campfire, without the romance. I think it's used to scare the flies, like one would buy for lighting the exterior of his house.
Crinkle fries probably come from a McCain frozen fries bag, found at the local grocery store.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Best ribs I ever had. We have BBQ places here in AZ and the Ribs are not great out here. The 1st time I had Bar B Barn was in 90 when I went to the old forum to see Quebec vs Montreal. I went there after the game and I was hooked. The chicken is ok,but I go there for the ribs. I'll be in Montreal the 3rd week in Aug.,and I'll eat there at least a couple of times. The ribs and chicken were so tasty. I have never had ribs like this, so use to the bbq sauce version.What a delious taste.Their sauce for the chicken was tangy just the way they do it in the south.Mmmm!
Went to the West Island Bar-B-Barn location this weekend. Haven't been there in quite a while, and was looking forward to a nice meal out for a change. Ended up being a total disappointment. The ribs were tough. The sides were delivered to the table cold. The mashed potatoes were sort of crusted over as if they had been prepared earlier, and then flash heated under a lamp.
Worst of all, the waitress, who was totally unhelpful when we ordered, basically disappeared for the entire meal. When she finally reappeared a half hour later, she gave us some line about having been busy preparing bills, and that with a healthy dose of attitude. She asked if we would like our mashed potatoes replaced, then reappeared ten minutes later to tell us there were none left in the kitchen. This, on a night where the place didn't even seem all that busy.
Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time. If it's good ribs you want, you can find them at pretty much any other place in town.
The food is just incredible. I absolutely love it and we will be eating there in a week. I am going back to the Montreal area to see the old sights, etc. I miss it. Stop there for dinner. You will be happy you did!
I used to LOVE the ribs at the Bar B Barn. Went to Montreal for my birthday this past weekend, & couldn't wait to go to have some ribs. THEY WERE AWFUL...Frozen fries that were not fried, cheap spanish rice, & really pathetic portion of very greasy ribs. $42 for the two of us, + tax. This was at the Guy St location. The waitress was indifferent, & didn't seem to notice that I barely touched my food. Or maybe it's a sight she is used to.
We had lunch there over the Labor Day weekend. The ribs are tender but coated with some form of sugar based candy like goop. It was like eating candy coated ribs.
For a 8 oz soda refill they charged $2.00.
We won’t be returning any time in the future.
it is well worth the drive from Ontario. nothing like there chicken anywhere just wish they would open 1 in Toronto the only problum with the place is when you stand in line outside in the winter it get really COLD but we would still never give up our place in line
Ever since we stumbled into BBQ Barn back in 1987, my sister and I always talk in fond terms about our daily sojourns for the cote-levee ribs at the 'Barn'. There's nothing like the 'Barn' here in L.A.! All the more reason to visit 'Mo' for ribs at the "Barn'.
