Chilly nights are made much warmer for diners at this rock-solid Polish cafe in the heart of Old Montreal. Indeed, this is a culinary sanctuary, evidenced by pews from an old chapel and refectory tables from a convent. Dishes include all the rib-sticking, hearty standards from a traditional Polish kitchen: pork chops, duck, hot borscht, perogies, cabbage and sausage. Dinner for two, excluding wine or tip, comes to between CAD40-CAD60.
My boyfriend and I went to Cafe Stash on our vacation in Montreal and it was great enough to come home and write a review! We had an amazing 4 course meal of soup, salad, main dish, and dessert and coffee for about $60 (not including drinks).
It was a small restaurant, which added to the atmosphere and the staff was very attentive. There was even someone playing the piano while you ate! The culture aspect of it was a nice change to resturants in America too.
We both would highly recommend it to anyone who is in old downtown Montreal. Great food, great service, large portions, and a reasonable price.
It takes more than location and a piano ambiance to satisfy today's smart gastronomic consumer.
Firstly, upon entering the restaurant, had to wait 7 minutes and 30 seconds to be seated, even through 2 staff members were right behind the bar. One staff member walked our way, and we expected to be seated. That staff member then walked straight past our party, and went in front of the restaurant to smoke. Very unpleasant indeed. Staff doesn't smile much, and most speak in a heavy and difficult accent to understand. It seems as if this restaurant simply stopped trying, or stopped innovating. After years of not having been to this restaurant, I'd expect the food to have changed a bit. No change at all. Same cuisine is overly fried, greasy and OVERLY oil-filled appetizers and entrees. The glossy menu is tacky, for such a restaurant on St-Paul Street, that charges as much as they do. The sampler "beginner" plate, was also extremely heavy and filling. On the positive side, if you like the Piano bar ambiance, and amazing views of the the old city, then this is a good place. However, other restaurants on the same street, just steps away, priced around the same range, may be a better choice for the gourmand palette. Bottom line, go there for lunch, not dinner. Wine list is also very limited.
All of our food was delicious. I have two teenagers and one under ten and they all enjoyed their choices.
The prices were very reasonable. Service is a tad slow, but I think that is more of a Montreal thing than it is a reflection on the restaurant. Every restaurant we visited was like this. We learned to just relax and enjoy our dining experience in Montreal.
We inhaled our dessert. I would recommend trying one.
This had always been a favourite spot of ours - my boyfriend and I planned a trip to Montreal for a weekend getaway to celebrate the anniversary of our first day. We got a caleche ride from our hotel to Stash and on the ride to Stash, my bf proposed to me - how very exciting and then to celebrate it in the intimacy of Stash was really special. The ambience is lovely - dark, intimate. The food is sensational - all really memorable
Until I visited this place I didn't think polish food was anything to get excited over. Stash definitely changed my mind and proved me wrong! I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys good food in a relaxing atmosphere.
This restaurant is smack dab in the middle of the Montreal bar scene, and the perfect place to be noticed.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Service is friendly and efficient. The breakfast menu has a large selection including ...
