A classy, popular sushi joint in the heart of Outremont, Maiko impresses with immaculate sushi creations and excellent interpretations of other Japanese standards — tempura, steak, and so on. The sparsely decorated but affecting decor features a sushi bar and crisp white tablecloths, and the service, while sometimes a tad slow, is always friendly and well-informed. On summer nights the terrace is a warm, friendly place to watch the world go by on Bernard Street.
My daughter and her friend had Teryaki Salmon.
A few hours later both were throwing up and had Diarhea.
I suppose the food is good, but not worth the 48 hours of discomfort they both went through.
When we called to tell the owner, she was indifferent and could not care less. To the point of rudeness. This bothered me more than the actual incidence.
I wouldnt go there.
Pros: We enjoyed the nice weather by dining outside on their patio. Nice, clean atmosphere. Our server was pleasant and efficient.
Cons: Very expensive for what you get! Food presentation and quality were mediocre at best. Miso soup looked and tasted watered down. Lychee martini was blue and not very good. One of our pricey order of sushi rolls actually had "rice krispy cereal" rolled inside with the fish. As well, while we dined, Manager and a few staff members had a brief but loud argument outside, just a few feet away from us.
Not recommended. Will not return.
The food was of excellent quality and the presentation was impressive. The vegetable tempura was the best I've ever had and the sushi and maki were fresh and in interesting combinations. Overall a great experience from start to finish.
Not only is the food delicious but wonderfully displayed on your plate. The staff is always friendly and very helpful in helping you make the right choice. Great ambiance, FAST service and not as expensive as other top rated Sushi shops in the city. I try to go back at least once a month and recommend it to all.
