Description

If you like Thai food but you are also a vegetarian, this is the place to indulge your tastes. The decor is not overly formal and the ambience is guaranteed to set you at ease. Avoiding even nam pla, Thai cuisine's essential fish-based sauce, the menu includes a series of "vegetarian meat" dishes. These are bean curd products, processed and cooked to look and taste like meat. Standard vegetarian dishes are also available. Dinner for two, excluding wine and tip, ranges between CAD30-60.

Oh my GOD!!!! This food is so good, I still can't believe it. It's the best vegetarian food I've ever ate. Everybody need to go try that (vegetarian or meat-eater) will enjoy it I'm sure! The service was excellent, fast and the employees were wonderful. They are gone see me often. Bon apptit!!! Stphanie

Not quite up to the hype, but still very good.
By elly, 1/1/07
We'd heard that Chu Chai was the best vegetarian restaurant in Montreal. It's good, but I'm not sure if it's worthy of that title. There's not much of an ambience - the decor is overly simple, which doesn't lend much to atmosphere. The food is very good - the vegetarian meats are better than most of the grocery-store fakes, but the dishes aren't by any means mind-blowing. The menu however, is fairly extensive, so it's easy to find something to fit your tastes.

One of a kind!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/06
Yes I must admit, I was a little sceptic when I was told that we were going to a vegetarian restaurant on a Friday night! However, with the menu so vast and incomparable, now I understand why my friends always come back over and over! From the chicken sauteed with peanut sauce and crispy spinach to the duck in red curry, everything was absolutely amazing! As a newcomer, I must give the staff some credit because I probably give them a bit of trouble by asking so many questions lol. Still, all of them were very kind and talkative. The decor might be a little too formal but it is compensated by the food that will take your breath away! A must for everyone! (including non-vegeterian like me) merci beaucoup!

TWO THUMBS UP!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/05
I was totally delighted with the meal that I had from Chuch (express Chu Chai). As a vegetarian, it is wonderful to have a creative, heathly and satisfing meal out on the town. I was blown away by thier flare and numerous tofu crations. I wish they had a place like this in Toronto! Two thumbs up! I will surely go back on my next visit to Montreal-merci! :]

Regular customer

I love going to this restaurant for it's unique approach to all vegetarian dining. My "meat and potatoes" brother loves going to this restaurant for the taste of the food. Everytime he is in town for business, he calls me to make reservations. It is a local favorite for Montrealer's and you usually need a reservation for the weekend. Love the 5 spice beef, the chicken with cashews and pineapple and the crispy fried mushrooms (my brother swears they are like chicken wings - but better for you). Great restaurant!

The most delightful place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/05
Excellent sellection of vegetarian food. A peanut sauce that is to die for. Highly reccomend going with a close group of friends on a cold winter day. Small interior lends itself to intimate conversations and pretty good service (waitresses have no where to hide). Bathroom is beautiful and always clean.

Best vegetarian restaurant in Montreal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/22/04
A great place to get vegetarian cuisine in montreal. Try the fish with three spicey sauces, or the chicken with peanut sauce. Also they have a very delicious pad thai if you like noodles. Try the fried bananas if you have room for desert.
