Maison Kam Fung

Description

This is the most highly regarded casual Chinese restaurant in Montreal; Kam Fung draws with Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine and a pleasing if rather utilitarian decor. Peking Duck is the house specialty, and is available without advance order—a point of institutional pride. It is just as well known for its dim sum; an enormous selection of dumplings, many filled with the same fresh seafood you can see in the aquariums, are wheeled out on platters for the hungry weekend hordes. In either case you should escape for less than CAD15.

Not what I thought.
By ,
I lived in Toronto for many years and used to the Dim Sum in Chinatown at Dundas and Spadina. Let me tell you a big difference in taste and service. La Maison Kam Fung is awful. Awful in taste and service. I took the time to call and ask if they had my favorite dishes and I was told yes. Upon my arrival with a friend and asked for my dishes I was told they did not have it. I was not impressed. I hope I can find one good Dim Sum place in MOntreal. I do not miss Toronto but I miss the Dim Sum there. Don't go to La Maison Kam Fung, it is really bad and it cost a fortune and it's not good.

DISGUSTING
By ,
HORRIBLE. This used to be my favourite restaurant in 2008 and prior, but when i returned in 2009 it had gone SEVERELY DOWNHILL. the service and food were HORRIBLE. our waiter was rude and unhelpful and upon serving us the INCORRECT dishes, he refused to return them. the "fresh fish" was not only not fresh but it was near-rotten and had a pungent old odor. when we asked to exchange it for the fresh sea bass, instead of exchanging it they gave us a fresh sea bass and charged us $50. teh bill for 2 people turned out to be $150 due to their negligence and poor service. i will NEVER return to la maison kam fung.

NEVER ,NEVER COME BACK
By ,
We are the Vietnamese , the Dimsum is very familial to us , just yesterday we tried at Kamfung , the service is very very bad , we did not even have tea when we already at the table, and already choose the food,we want more chili sauce , wait long time to have have the waiter... at the end , we wait for the Tofu(desert), ask the waiter(We know him , he worked for Tongpo, President..before)he said :wait , wait (two times we asked)finally we can not wait , we call to pay , and i complaine that we can not have the Tofu , this guy said : But it's no more...we are so angry , the price total is 70.00, we put 80.00 on the tray , instead or put back the 10.00 and we will decide how much we want to give for the tip ,no , they took all and did come back with the change, with the service like that , how we can give a good tip????listen to us , don't go to maison Kamfung Bao Van

Must Go Early with more Friends!!!!
By ,
The day that I went to Kam Fung was a Sunday. We were only two people for dim sum and there were a lot of people waiting in line. We waited for an hour to get a sit, but it was worth it. The food was just fabilous. The dim sum was served very hot and there are a lot varieties. The food would not stop coming toward us. We want to try everything but we were only two people. Next time, I will go earlier to avoid the long wait and with more friends so that I can try more variety. After all the food that we had, we only paid $25.00 in total.

Good Dim Sum
By ,
I've been here for Dim Sum many times, so I guess I must like it a lot. While the food is always quite good, variety is somewhat lacking. At any given time, they only seem to have about a dozen items circulating, which can be disappointing if you've tried them all before. And the place is so big that if you don't get a seat close to the kitchen, you won't get the freshest food. Try to get there early to avoid the very long waits on weekend afternoons. Overall, though, this place is good and quite an experience. The lively atmosphere is a lot of fun, especially with a big group of friends. The food is always fresh and good, but not amazing.

The best Dim Sun in Montreal
By ,
Go there for the Dim Sun. A great variety of fresh, well prepared Chinese dumplings and vegetables. You eat well and at an affordable price. Service is variable and do not expect any luxurious ambiance. The customers are mostly Chinese and that is always a good sign when going to a Chinese restaurant.

Must stop for lunch!
By ,
Authentic Asian restaurant serving a wide variety of dim sum. Stuffed eggplant and shrimp dumplings were particularly wonderful. Very reasonably priced a la carte items. Wait staff very helpful in helping with selections. We had a great table overlooking the street; excellent people watching, both inside and outside.

I will go back with my friends
By ,
the food, the specially nice service; everything, except may be the entrance which is quite confusing. It was my first experience there; I enjoyed it very much. I will recommend it for sure.

Look elsewhere
By ,
It is a very cheap, banquet hall atmosphere, located on the top floor of a class "c" shopping mall. The food was fresh but not to our liking. If you enjoy P.F. Chang's, this is the exact opposite. They even charge you for a small bowl of steamed white rice to accompany a $16.00 shrimp dish. Look elsewhere.
