P'tit Plateau (Le), Montreal

It's 12/22/07 and I'm in Montreal for vacation...from Southern California. I took a look on the internet and P'Tit Plateau came up again and again so I tried it this evening. I'm so stuffed!! I didn't take my own wine becuase it was a "party of one", I know I could've brought the rest back to my hotel room, but...eh. I opted for the mushroom soup over the salad. Then I tried the escargot cassoulet. My main course was the salmon in pastry. It took me by surprise because the salmon was smoked. The salmon was extremely fresh. And smoking the fresh I was so full by the time I was 1/2 way through so I took a break! haha. The ambiance was warm and friendly, and as a single woman, I didnt feel uncomfortable at all. I saw a comment on some other website that the people thought the waitresses were rude. These people must be smoking crack cocaine! I'm accustomed to people that are not american...but thats another story. I found the waitresses to be extremely helpful, talkative, and they called me a taxi at the end. Hello!!! Yes, they're busy. There is only two of them waiting on eight groups of people and one single person. They are quick and abrupt, but if you ask a question, they are more than willing to help. And they're friendly! I finished off with the creme brulee. Yum! In S. CA most creme brulee is lumpy...sort of like ricotta cheese not whipped out. The creme brulee at P'tit Plateau is good. Fresh. and the candy top doesnt taste burnt. I do recommend this restaurant. I gave everything a 5. Note: You have to understand french food. It's not american hype. If you like american hype like...this restaurant isnt for you. The difference for me is that french food enhances the natural wild taste of the game be it venison, salmon, etc. If you like fake food, this isn't for you.

Fabulous carrot soup and excellent desserts. The entrees were weak. The lamb was just OK and the veal arrived overcooked! The waitress forgot our appetizer and didn't even mention it. The set up was a little too crude. No bread and butter plates. Had to eat the bread off the paper placemats! The table for two was minute. We will not return or recommend it. Just too many other wonderful BYOWs with tastier food, better surroundings and better value that warrant our business.

In a quiet but very central location (one block from the intersection of Mont-Royal and St. Denis) is this delightful restaurant. The atmosphere is perfect - a small room with open kitchen and honest decoration. Service very amenable, especially as we arrived after the start of the second sittings (at 1830 and 2030... go for the second so you aren't rushed to clear your table). Don't forget to bring your own wine. Entr�es excellent: duck p�t� perfect and grilled goats cheese to die for. Main courses - duck for me and salmon for my partner (from that day's menu of just six: a sure sign of a confident kitchen) were spot on. Maybe too fussy - lots of different but utterly agreeable flavours in the vegetables and intense sauces, but that's good solid French cuisine for you and it was a dream. For desert, the cr�me brul�e is a simple delight, followed by good firm espressos. Bill for two, three courses (plus salad to start) came to $125 including service. Very worth while, perfect romantic night out for young, middle aged or older lovers :-)

This is a very popular, tiny neighborhood restaurant with high-end cuisine served in elegant style. The food is absolutely superb. Be sure to make reservations, even on week nights and regardless of the time you are arriving. The word has really gotten out on this one! BYOB
