Troika

Description

Anyone seeking Russian flamboyance in a dramatic setting has found the right place. The decor is wall-to-wall red and gold velvet—somewhat decadent and spy novel secretive. It makes for a cozy yet intriguing evening, especially when influenced by a couple of flavoured vodkas. The menu is Franco-Russian exile-style, exemplified by a revisionist blend of Beef Stroganoff on linguine with a side of broccoli, carrots and snow peas. Then there is the caviar, which starts at CAD49 for two. Service is friendly and professional, and the vodka smooth.

Worst restaurant in montreal
I went to this restaurant last friday night because we've bought a coupon on Groupon. We've paid 60$ for all you can eat hot and cold entrees The cold ones all tasted the same, carrot with vinegar, potato with vinegar, fish with vinegar, .. you get the point. The hot entrees tasted like M&M frozen entrees dip in oil. Disgusting. The service is good. The waiter looked like he knew we were getting ripped off so he was very friendly with us. On top of the 60$ coupon we had to pay the taxes and the service was on the bill. A total of 90 dollars.... Like many other user, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant...

A very dissapointing experience.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/2/11
A very dissapointing experience. I bought a vouher for 2 on Groupon for $29. The price included unlimited appetizers. Cold appetizers were far from Russian cuisine. It seems that the cold appetizers were just canned food. The amount of food was rediculas and definetely nobody wanted another round of that appetizers. Hot appetizers tasted a little bit better, but again very far from the original Russian cousine. We paid on top of the voucher more than $100 for 1 bottle of wine, 4 shots of vodka and 2 bottles of water. Tables were so close to each other that you literally touch your neighbour with your elbow. Décor doesn't fit with the Russian style restaurant. I would not recommend the restaurant to a friend.

WTF! Worst \"restaurant in the world\"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/11
I rather eat garbage than this cold crap tapas! No service, no good food, very small portions... Even made a reservation and had to wait 20 min for table... Didn't even offer us the bar to sit while we wait.... No hope for this "restaurant"- please go bankrupt and stop wasting peoples money! With all these bad aspects, it's worse that it is very expensive!!!

Overpriced and underdelivered
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/27/09
My wife and I went to dinner to try the Russian-French cuisine. The service was OK and the ambiance was interesting with a violinist and a guitarist playing Russian and French tunes. From the food we tried duck with pears, lamb chops and borscht. The food was mediocre at best. For the price it was beyond disappointing. I don't think we'll go back.

Awful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/3/09
The tone was set when I wanted to keep my coat with me at the table, as it was very expensive and I didn't want to place it in the coat check. The rude waiter would not allow me to keep my coat with me at the table. The service was slow and the food bland and luke warm when it got to us. We are self proclaimed "foodies" and have enjoyed fine restaurants all over the world. This restaurant was one of the worst restaurants, in terms of food and service, we have experienced.

Fabulous
By Peace be unto you., 4/25/08
Absolutely loved the whole experience. Great wine, great food, great service. We had the appetizer plate, Chicken Kiev and red wine from Georgia. It was beyond taste and texture, a truly wonderful evening. No better night out ever.

What a beautiful Valentine's day
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/15/08
So me and my boyfriend needed a place to dine for valentine's day. We used this site as a reference for our choice and ended up at Troika, Montreal's finest (and perhaps only) Russian restaurant. We ended up spending 3 to 4 hours there enjoying the 6 course degustation meal. Now this is meant for one person but we were stuffed at the end being two on it. It was exquisit. What a beautiful night. We also had some wonderful wine and flavoured vodkas. Now I warn you it is quite easy (if the budget will permit it of course) to leave this restaurant feeling quite tipsy. In fact I think I'm still tipsy now... they have the best vodka in town! I recommend this place to any nice couple of even a group of friends. Very romantic, wonderful service, great people and a charismatic owner. Great food, expensive but worth every penny. A must see!

Great ambiance, a bit expensive
By Mike, 6/9/07
Based on the recommendation of reviews on this site, I went to this restaurant with a friend to try out their Russian cuisine. It is a cozy, well decorated small restaurant. The food was excellent and the ambiance was great with a musician playing violin and another with a guitar. However, the price tag end up to be a tad more expensive than the 25$ listed here, with an appetizer and a main course it would cost around 35-40$ per person. Overall, I enjoyed the experience.

Excellent!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/06
A wonderful meal with excellent service! A romantic evening. Russian cuisine was so tasty and cooked to perfection. I'm originally from Plattsburgh, NY and miss the excitement of visiting Montreal. Reno and Vegas are great cities and I've been to Rome, Naples, Capri, London, Edinburgh many European places but Montreal has that special place in my heart that will always be number one.

Russia in Montreal
By Paul Lavallee, 11/3/06
The food, service, and decor were great. Very romantic dining. The prime rib was excellent. There are many restaurants to choose from on Cresent, but Troika is tough to beat.
