Ye Olde Orchard Pub
Civilized even by NDG's high standards, this well-known watering hole offers imported and microbrewed beer (including all the usual Irish suspects as well as less common local products), a wonderful terrace, friendly service and superior pub grub. Any of the burgers (CAD7.95-9.95), curries (CAD11.95-15.95) and the Irish Stew (CAD10.95) should stick firmly to your ribs while remaining kind to the pocketbook. There is live Irish music every night, lots of snug booths for intimate conversations and the sort of neighbourhood charm one rarely finds downtown.
We went on a Wednesday evening and were completely let down. The place wasn't busy, to be expected, it was a Wednesday night but it took our waitress a while to greet us. We sat in the front by the window ( best seat), when she finally did greet us she was sour and looked miserable. Not a great impression for us. The food was ok at best, for an Irish pub the food wasn't Irish, there are curries and butter chicken on the menu.. Not exactly what we expected. Everything is pricy for this pub. If you're looking for an okay menu with not so ok service Ye Olde Orchard Monkland is where you'll find it!
pub by the big window (best seat) but our waItress was so sour and not welcoming at all. This was our first impression. Then we looked at the menu, it is a mini novel. Way too much choic no to mention there wasn't much of a selection of Irish food, there were curries on the menu?
We ate here the first time out of convenience because it was 1 block from our hotel and we didn't want anything fancy, just food. We got friendly service and good food in a pleasant atmosphere. We liked it enough to back a second time!
the ambiance was excellent and the food was very very good.I was a little sad to know realize that all the deep fried food were fried in peanut oil, since i am allergic to peanut, but to make up for it they have amazing lamb sausages served with mash potatoes that made me forget that my boyfriend was eating a wonderful fish and chips. Long live Ye Olde Orchard
