Monkland Tavern, Montreal

Heard a lot about it and perhaps in the past it was really good, but the ten of us who went over the week-end were dissapointed in general. I think you're paying for the area because it was pricey which would have been okay except that the food was terrible. One person sent their plate back because the meat was so burnt he could not eat it. Very dissapointed.

The bloody ceasars are given a kick with a tasting of horseradish. It is the best ceasar around! The food is wonderful, the salmon tartar, the shrimp and the macaroni and cheese is like none I have ever eaten before. Excellent all around! p.s. the atmosphere is trendy, really happening!

This restaurant is amazinf, The best salmon tartar I've ever had (for supper) and thebest thai beef salade for lunch. Their menu is slightly different for lunch and supper. The atmosphere is great. It's small so there is usually a line up, but worth the wait!

I also live in the area and dine at The Tavern regularly. I can honestly say I have never had a meal that was less than outstanding. The service is efficient and friendly and as other reviewers have mentioned, it's always pleasant to wait a the bar for a table. I also enjoy eating my meal at the bar on occasion.

Monkland Taverne is always busy (for good reason), food is always perfect, this place is just the best! My favorite restaurant. Not to be confused with it's sister restaurant at Westmount Square. That place is ok but is not as good.

crowded in a fun way, good food, good service, pretty good value - I'm from Pennsylvania but get up to Montreal frequently, I will definitely be back to the Monkland

Excellent dishes selected from the Chef's nightly specialties, three choices of unique dishes you can't find just anywhere. Accompanied the specialities from the menu which is also very nice. Steak of the Day always recommended, cooked exactly how you order it. Service has never been bad, that is hard to find. I have been here at least twelve times in the last year. Servers take the time to get to know your name, what else can you ask for? Waits for tables are normal, just grab a seat at the bar and you'll be taken care of by the bartender. Normally only have to wait a few minutes anyway, if it is longer the selection of drinks is varied - lots of beers on tap, healthy wine list, and top-shelf Vodka is available. Prices are great for the food and service, from twelve dollars on the menu and average twenty-five for the nightly specialties.

porc chop and rock shrimp are great, super sharp service. wine ist is killer and that big handsome guy behind the bar makes a sick martini.

I live in the neighbourhood and eat here often. I have taken out of town visitors and without exception they all love the place. It is especially appealing because it is a neighbourhood hang out; both for those of us who live here and for visitors to get that native-like ambience. Additionally, reservations are not taken so one can be spontaneous about going there...

Waiting for a table can be long but worth the wait. Relax, have a drink at the bar... the food is ecclectic and always delicious
