Some 45 years and counting: that is how long this venerable establishment has served as a culinary beacon for thousands of Montrealers looking for authentic French specialties in a homey, laid-back atmosphere. The decor is train-station efficient, knocking on kitsch's door: tile floors, sturdy chairs and tiny tables. The dishes are similarly sturdy and simple: Beef Bourguignon, Calves Sweetbreads and their classic Brandade de Morue, which combines mashed potatoes with shreds of cod. Service is bubbly and dinner for two, including taxes but not wine or tip, is in the CAD35-70 range.
Food was excellent. Service was great. We had service for 5. We called ahead to make a reservation for about an hour later on a Tuesday evening. Was not a problem. The food was cooked to perfection and the choices on the menu was traditional French cuisine. Very casual but the food was top notch.
Such excellent simple French food! Under a dozen things to order as a main course, they are all perfect! Not so much choice you don't know what to order, so if you are indecisive... it's wonderful. Great waiters, ambiance and wine menu. A classic beauty! Go tonight!

Duck confit and Beef Burguignnone were delicious, and the menu had many other things I'd have loved to order. Very nice service, relaxed but attentive.
The informal decor at this relatively undiscovered bring your own wine bistro belies the wonderful creations exiting its open kitchen.
