Black Creek Pioneer Village
If you want to know what it was like to live in the pioneer era, check out Black Creek Pioneer Village, located in the northwest part of the city near the York University campus. It has over 35 precisely restored 1860s stores and homes, as well as attentive costumed staff. Hop on a horse-drawn wagon, visit the doctor, school or chat with the blacksmith and cabinet-maker about their work. If you feel hungry, there's the Half Way House Restaurant for country fare.
We first visited Black Creek Pioneer Village during early October 2006. The village layout was great, the attendants in each building were most informative and were ready and willing to answer any of our questions.
The colours on the trees were really beautiful. On returning home to Ireland we found our ever green (forty shades)trees and shrubs a litte drab.
A visit to this village for both young and old is throughly recommended.
I just got back from a convention located at Black Creek. The fascilities for the convention were great. Very modern and comfortable. It was so nice to take lunch in the village, and wonder around, looking at all the historic buildings and the farm animals. I wish we had more time to see the entire village. The place was huge!
There were two restaraunts, catering to different tastes. One, near the event pavillion, sold hamburgers, hot off the grill. Very good, basic food. The other restaraunt was located in the Halfway House. There you get to watch as they make homemade bread in a brick oven before your meal. I didn't get to eat there, but other attendees assured me the food was good, and very plentiful.
The staff seemed friendly and eager to share their knowlege. They were also very helpful when I thought I lost my credit card in the village.
All in all, a very good experience I can't wait to have again.
