Far Niente Napa Grill
The name means "Do Nothing" in Italian and that's exactly what you're expected to do in this pricey but folksy Bay Street restaurant favoured by the professional crowd looking for good food and exceptional service. The formula has been successful with stockbrokers and bankers jostling each other to line up for lunch. The menu is built around one basic premise: give the customers what they want. You get fresh bread, three different types of Caesar Salad, and three kinds of Salmon, including Roast Salmon marinated in Teriyaki, Honey and Mustard seed. And there's a 10,000-bottle wine selection!
My guest & I arrived at Far Niente around 11:45 AM without reservations, and although the restaurant was fully booked we managed to snag a table, lucky for us. Our server was excellent, attentive, yet not pushy. Every item we ordered off the menu hit the spot. Split an appetizer, maybe even a main course, as their Creme Brulee is an orgasmic experience, and you must save room for it! Bravo Far Niente. Next time I'm back in TO, I'm back to Far Niente.
The food is excellent as is the service - fair prices for the sumptuous flavours. In fact I am going there again today! Recommend as location for business lunches - Try the lime tart - it is to die for!
We literally had to stick our arms out in front of servers in order to get... service! Surly waiters poured water for us, no one asked how our meal was (so we assumed they were busy), but as soon as we were done our last bite, they came to pick up our plates. We left no tip and I do not regret it at all. I resented having to pay for our meal since we had such a bad experience. Although the food was good, we were stressed throughout the whole meal waiting for water, more wine (which we were never offered and never got). I will eat dinner from a hotdog vendor rather than go back there.
