Tokyo Grill

Description

This restaurant is proof positive that not all good things come in pretty packages. Squeezed amid Yonge's not-so-inviting Wellesley-Dundonald storefronts, this Japanese grill has a reputation for making some of the best sushi and soba in the city. It's also a good spot to place your party tray order or for some catering action when friends drop by unexpectedly. A designated non-smoking restaurant by the City of Toronto. Nearby attractions include Queen's Park, Buddies In Bad Times Theatre, and the Toronto Police Museum.

A true japanese experience.
By ,
One of the most important things to me was the authenticity of the food. Most of the time you end up seeing people of one culture trying to make food from another and it just doesn't seem right, here at Tokyo Grill, this is authentic Japanese food made by Japanese people. The dishes are outstanding, especially the Udon and sushi. The outside may not be the prettiest thing you will ever see, but they more than make up for this lack of glamor with an excellent selection of fine Japanese cuisine and an environment that makes you feel like you are really in japan. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a wonderful experience with authentic Japanese food.

cheap and very friendly atmosphere

If you are looking for cheap and good food, this is the place to go. It serves authentic Japanese food not the usual places that only serves sushi. I highly recommend this place especially try the "pork katsu".

Loved the curry dishes
By ,
I've only had two dishes at this place but I loved them both: curry udon and curry rice. They were both generally the same. I ordered beef with the curry rice. Picture a dark coloured stew with meat and chopped vegetables (carrots, green onions, potatoes). Obviously, the only difference between the dishes is the plate of steamed rice covered with the stew, or a steaming bowl of the stew with thick udon noodles. Bottom line: the curry stew was wonderfully flavourful. Spicy, but not too spicy. Both dishes left me feeling very satisfied. A perfect dish to have during the fall and winter seasons. Both dishes were priced around $10CDN. I would agree with the previous review in that I wouldn't go to this place for the sushi, but instead for the rice and noodle dishes. I'm looking forward to trying the recommended chicken katsu.

My downtown bit of good taste
By ,
Fantastic food, homey atmosphere, and traditional noodles and rice dishes. They don't offer much in the way of sushi (they do have it); however, if you like homestyle cooking of a different sort then this is the place to tease your tongue with. If you are feeling daring try the 'natto' with raw egg (VERY sticky fermented soybean) and have some rice. You will be sure to impress them if you do. :) Not for formal dining but a great date place or just looking to try 'normal' japanese food.

Real Japanese
By ,
I have lived in Japan for two years, and this is one of the only Japanese places in the city where the food is actually PREPARED and SERVED by Japanese people! If you want authentic Japanese food, this is the place to go! Try the Chicken katsu. Perfection!
