Located in Yorkville village and within walking distance of a half-dozen hotels and city attractions, this restaurant features a taste of authentic Italian cuisine—like taking a trip to the fabled peninsula without the cost of purchasing a ticket. It's an ideal place for that weekday business luncheon or that evening romantic rendezvous. House specialties include Homemade Pasta and pizza. Mains include Pollo Cremoso, Vitello Cleopatra (veal with shiitake and Portobello mushrooms and gorgonzola), Grilled Squid and Grilled Rack of Lamb.
A piece of Italy in the heart of Toronto. Spuntini was the best Italian food experience I have ever had since visiting Italy last year. The food was right on par with the actual Italian restaurants within the country itself. The chef and wait staff should be proud of themselves and how excellent their food and service was to my party and I.
Contray to some reviews, I did not feel rushed or pressured to have to be out at a certain time and all the staff were very pleasent towards us.
Spuntini is definately the place to be and we'll be back.
For the record, food and wait staff were decent. Owner's attitude, however, was below par.
I took Mom to try out this restaurant on a Friday night. My boyfriend was expected to join us but got caught at work so my mom and I proceeded to order and dine. Food and service had been decent until the restaurant started to fill up. The next thing we know, my mom and I were asked the money question,
"Is the other patron that you are expecting ordering a meal?"
The answer to that was "No, he will join us for drinks" and we were then advised "then sorry I can't send people away and must ask you to leave", by the owner himself. Note now, we were not simply chatting and being ignorant about a busy Friday night. By then we have advised the wait staff that we would not wait and had ordered wine, appetizer, main course and were in the middle of working through the meal.
When we asked for an opportunity to express our disappointment on the abruptness on this intrusion, the owner had seemed annoyed and intended to teach us a lesson, "This is how I run my business and I have been in it for 16 years."
We paid over $100 for 2 unfinished meal and a horrible "lesson" from an owner that does not care to hear what customers have to say respectfully.
We recently had a group from Europe visit Toronto on business. We chose Spuntini Restaurant for their final night gala dinner and couldn’t be more pleased. Even before our clients returned home the next day we received an email from our agency in Europe advising us of how pleased the group was. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and the cooperation that we received as the group organizer was excellent. What more can you ask for…
I wanted to propose to my know fiancée and wanted a nice place to go and my friend recommended that I call Spuntini to set up the night.
From the time that I called and explained what I wanted to do, the person on the other end of the phone that they would give us the best table in the house.
From the time that we walked in the doors we were inundated with the smells of great food and were salivating at the idea of having a great night.
Fernando, who we thought was the host told us that the table was not ready offered us a seat at the bar and got us drinks to while waiting.
We had to wait about 15 mins to get the table but he kept assuring us that it would only be a little wait.
Once seated we were amazed by the table, there is a little room that overlooks the street but it turned out to be a warm night and the windows were opened and it created a warm and inviting evening and the wait for the table was worth it.
We were unsure of what to order, so the waiter, Robert guided us through the menu with great ease and we finally decided to go with his recommendations.
We started off with an antipasto, which is not on the menu, but offered a great variety of appetizers that comprise the menu and the presentation of the food was short of a work of art.
I decided to go with the whole fish and my fiance went with the filet mignon and they were grilled to perfection.
To end of the evening, I had made arrangements to have the ring to placed on the dessert plate and it was delivered with the most wonderful creme brule.
When all was said in done, my fiance said yes and out of the blue, Robert and Fernando showed up with two glasses of champagne to congratulate us.
As it turns out Fernando is the owner of the restaurant and we were truly impressed with the service and the food.
If asked to recommend a place to go, Spuntini is the first place without a doubt.
The food was not great, the see food plates were much better then the steak and the pizza.
The steak come out well done and no flavor. It took the main course over an hour to be served.
To top it all the service was not great, it seems that they are trying to put as many tables as possible, and there are not enough waiters. T the service is slow and not very professional. When the issues were discussed with the manager, it appears that he did not really care.
For the price range, I have expected much more.
I live in Toronto and I am not a fan of Sputini. It is ok but not great. However if you are visiting Toronto from the United States you may like this restaurant. I have travelled extensively and find most of the food in the United States very bland. There are exceptions of course, Mexican food in Texas, Cuban food in Miami, New York city and Los Angeles.
In Toronto we tend to serve authentic cuisine. By this I mean we don't Anglosize or Americanize our food. If you go to an Indian restaurant you get the real deal, same for Italian, Vietnamese, Japanese etc. Their are exceptions of course. There are chain restaurants which serve crap mostly.
If you want good Italian food go to Sotto Sotto, it is righ underneath Sputini and much better.
If you want good cheap Italian food go to little Italy. College and Ossington streets. Try Bar Italia.
Our server, David, set the mood for the evening with his charm and relaxed manner. He helped us choose the wine which was superb and catered to my daughters fussy palate. She finished everything on her plate! The food was exquisite, the flavours outstanding. This was definately a 5 star dining experience!
A table for two in the corner was a perfect setting to enjoy a romantic dinner. Reasonable prices and food selection. Excellent service. Make sure to take time to look at the photos of the A-list stars that have been there.
From the moment you enter the restaurant you feel like family. The food is wonderful, the service is bar none and they make the best martini's in the city. You'll want to come back again and again! Loved it!
