Allegro Ristorante, Ottawa

We live an 1 1/2 hours away - Valentine's Day was approaching and it had to be a special dinner. We found this restaurant on this web site - read the reviews and decided to trust what was written. My wife and I were not disappointed. Everything was 5 stars for us and well worth the drive. Very relaxing with amazing service and details - specially from the owner (John - I hope I have his name right) who met us at the door and made us feel special. If you are so lucky to have Theepan as your waiter - you are in for a treat! He is a great person. Our thanks to Allegro Ristorante for a wonderful night. We will be back and will tell our friends. Have been a client of Allegro since 1994. I have yet to be disappointed. Food is always excellent and service is perfect. Errors just don't happen in that risto. Have brought large and small groups several times, and we all started eating and finished at same time. Like other clients have said, Roberto - the owner - is a Gentleman and his personnel is of highest class. Allegro remains my favorite restaurant in Ottawa. Thank you, Roberto and all your staff!

Those planning to dine at the Allegro are in for a very satisfying experience. Service was from the moment we entered professional, efficient and courteous, delivering everything to our table, and removing it, right on time. The food was very good to excellent, for all dishes. Particular kudos for the calamari appetizer: crisp, tender, with just a hint of paprika in the batter. The best I've had anywhere. Although listed as "expensive" in most guides, my wife and I paid less than $100 for two, with appetizer, wine, dessert and a generous tip - great value! Minor criticism: The house red wine was of high quality, and we were very happy with it, but it was the only one of an extensive collection that was offered in a half-litre size. I would have preferred more carafe choices. The downstairs acoustics can make dining rather noisy and might be uncomfortable for some. Ask for the upstairs.

I took my girlfriend to Allegro for our anniversary and we had a magnificent time. Being Italian myself, and even working as a server in an authentic Italian restaurant earlier in my life, my expectations were high. My girlfriend and I were greeted at the door by the manager who offered to take our coats and hang them up. We were seated at a four-person table - which was a nice added bonus. Our water glasses were filled and menus were placed on the table promptly. The service at Allegro is impeccable. Our drink orders along with a complimentary order of bruschetta arrived almost instantly. The server announced the specials the way they should be announced - with enthusiasm. Our server was very fast and even indulged us in a few good quips. But he was never intrusive. The food was marvelous. My girlfriend had zucchini sticks (done to perfection) and fettuccine alfredo (perfectly cooked noodles and a cream sauce filled with flavor) with the house white wine. She absolutely loved it! I had bocconcini and pomodore followed by the pollo special (chicken stuffed with cheese & rappinni) and penne arrabiata. Let me say, every bite was heaven. Allegro is a classic example of what an Italian restaurant should be. As I sipped my sambuca and espresso, I was stunned when the bill arrived. I couldn't believe the value! Allegro provided a superior dining experience and I highly recommend this hidden gem. Mille Grazie!

This was one of the Best Dinnig Experiences I have ever had. From the appetizers to the best Veal chop ever & a Sea bass like no other.Allegro is the Best Italian reastaurant in Ottawa! Oh I Better not forget to mention there wine List WOW What a Selection, What a Night Can't wait to go Back.

The surprise was great...the room upstairs, fun & personal. Also I can't say enough about the service. "James" was our server & he played a big part in making my birthday the best!!.......Thank-you James. I should've sent this a long time ago!
