Economy Shoe Shop Cafe & Bar, Halifax

i've never had anything but great service there, maybe in the summertime when the place is wall to wall packed it takes a little time, but other then that terrific.

Holy smokes! I watched this doorman Darryl sneeze into his hands, Lick the stuff of his hands, rub his hands in his pants and then he shook some unsuspecting patrons hand. After he came over to say hello to me and my girlfriends. yew!!! we had to leave immediately. I am never going back!!!

If I could I would give this place a 0 out of 5 stars. Back in the day, this was the best place to go and chill with friends. They had great service, excellent drinks and fabulous nachos. But what about now you ask? They have so/so food that is way over priced and the drinks are horrible. They have recently completely re-did the drink menu and obviously hired individuals who couldn't mix a drink to save their life. The food as our waiter, oh so diligently put it "Is a hit or miss, sometimes its good and sometimes its bad." That a comment coming from someone who works there!!!! On top of that they have horrible waiters, who have customer service. Recently, they have either a) ignored my friends and I or b) Been rude to myself or someone in my party who had a complaint (ie food not good, or 'hey we need more water please'.) One one occasion after returning a drink that wasn't mixed properly and recieving a bill with said drink on it. I advised the waiter I wasn't going to pay for a drink I didn't drink.Tthe waiter replied with "Well, we have to come to a compromise about who is going to pay wont we". Of course, I said again that I wasn't going to pay for a 10$ drink, that I didn't drink. He replied with" well I hope my manager doesn't make me pay for this." :S What kind of customer service is that? So, my advised don't go here. There are plenty of nice bars around, so I say go somewhere else with at least good waiters!

The service here is the worst I've seen in Halifax. The servers are rude and slow. What's more, the food is nothing to write home about. I'm really shocked that the Coast voted them the "best nachos" in 2009; they aren't anything special at all. Like the review below says, with so many great restaurants in the city, do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I know I won't be back.

we went for a late lunch on saturday , patio had a few people but overall was not very busy we ordered nachios that were very good , they were out of stock on most beer , we ended up getting a bottled keiths and a propellar product , went through three different types and our server would return to tell us they were out of the product each time , we ordered a stella , asked four times before it was brought , ordered dinner , several items on the menu were not avilable which seemed strange for a saturday afternoon , however we all ordered , after aprox fifty minutes she returned to tell me they were out of smoked meat for my sandwich , she asked me if she could get something else for me , at this point we were getting close to the point we had to leave , i said no that the others would end up with cold food , she assured me that would not be the case ,, i said no thanks , at that point she walked to the kitchen and returned with almost all the orders , my four year old neices order had been overlooked , the others all took some food from their plates and made a plate for her , nobody at our table finished their dinners , drinks from the bar were just wrong , not sure what was in them but the three girls all said the same , just not right , anyway my beers were good , service was worst any of us have seen , food was not good , PS they did remove the beer from the bill , and she told me several times that i was not charged for my dinner , i told her that i could not see why i would be charged for something we never recieved , she looked at me bewildered and said we removed it ???? go figure ,, what should have been a quick lunch was a long painfull drawnout $ 100.00 deal go somewhere where they want your busness and you can enjoy the service and the food ,, halifax has too many great spots

Their service is terrible, one of the worst i've been to in a while It took them a good hour before our food came out and one of our dishes was cold we ended up not even eating since it would have probably taken them who knows how long to heat it up Value on the menu is not even worth it, their sandwiches don't even come with a side when there are so many other bars that provide this a place that is definitely over hyped

The economy shoe shop has probably the slowest service in town. While I was there eating with a friend, it took 40min for our nachos to come out. We then waited 1.5 hours for our main dish, which consisted of an order of curry chicken pasta and chicken wrap, which never actually came out of the kitchen. So we decided to leave and just pay for the nachos. While we were there, we also heard other people complain about getting their food cold. This is one restaurant I am never returning to.

Awesome place to go with friends or a date..the servers are nice and the dishwashers are hot ;) I highly recommend! best nachos EVER! a little too big though!

The Economy Shoe Shop is one of my favourite places to go for a drink and food in Halifax. The atmosphere is fantastic...like nothing you've ever seen before, and the food is fine. However, the service is far from acceptable. For the most part, the servers are too comfortable with their surroundings. They�re rude, arrogant and pretentious. They often put their feet in their mouths, if and when you get a chance to see them. I have, however, had great service from the bussers! I suggest tipping them next time you go.

Nachos are a must...very hip atmosphere...female staff are absolutly gorgeous.
